This course will introduce exercises and activities to aid in the journey of self-discovery and to facilitate empowerment through creative expression.
Students are encouraged to keep a journal as well as doing the exercises and projects.

Course Outline
Let's begin This Artful Adventure in Self Discovery. In each class we'll discuss a different aspect of the path. But don't forget as you travel the road, it's the journey that matters not the destination. And along the way hopefully you'll glean something of value that you can call your own.
Week One
- What is art therapy? What is art as therapy?
- Creating my special place and a time for me
- Learning to Trust Myself - an exercise using markers and paper
- Creating my personal journal
Week Two
- It's all about choice
- Creating my personal power symbol - an exercise using collage and found objects
- Exercise using lines
- Questions for my journal
- Introducing discussion questions
Week Three
- The gift of presence and the importance of color
- Exercise in exploring emotion through color
- Musical journey using color
- Exercise using colors to express meaning
- Journal, journal, journal
Week Four
- What's it really all about?
- Exercise to help prioritize and focus
- Mind map collage
- Creating a treasure map and/or book of possibilities
- And we journal some more
Week Five
- Releasing blocks
- Exercise creating my personal power doll
- Creating mandalas
- Journal exercises
Supplies
- Gather together whatever you have on hand. Examples - glue, markers, pencils, scissors, tape, and a box that you fill with found items like buttons, scraps of lace, stickers etc. etc.
- A small bag of sculpty clay
- Large pipe cleaners
- Computer and scanner to upload your work (if you choose to share your assignments)
