Welcome to farm week!
My name is Paulette and the pictures I am sharing this week are from my Cousins farm. You might remember it from the Maple syrup week I did a while back. The pictures are below, I hope you find something you would like to draw.

All levels of drawing are encouraged to participate!

The goal of this thread is to enable and encourage individuals to practice their drawing skills, learn new techniques and have fun! If you just want to sketch that’s fine. If you want to create a complex, detailed drawing, that’s great too. You will get out of this what you want. The references used are from my own personal reference library of images that I have photographed and I release them here as not under copyright, meaning you can use them as you wish for drawing.

You will be challenged by some aspect of all references most likely as you all will have different strengths and weaknesses in your ability to translate the images to paper.

Reminder:

This is a DRAWING challenge. Therefore please confine your artistic endeavours to some form of drawing: graphite, coloured pencil, pen and ink or charcoal.

There is no ruling on what size your final drawing or sketch should be. Smaller, sketchbook sizes will provide a smaller file size which is easier for loading onto the thread.

If you would like assistance or advice, please ask for it and I will be more than willing to try to guide you.

This challenge will last for one week. At that time, all challenge drawings should be submitted to this thread.

I have offered 3-5 reference images to choose from. The images are also provided in greyscale. Seeing the images in black and white gives a better sense of basic values.

I have kept the images to simple shapes that still provide challenges. Block out your basic shapes first then work the details into them, rechecking proportion and measurement against other reference points in your drawing.

If you have an interest in hosting a challenge, please see the list in the pinned area of general discussions.

Wow. These all seem to be challenging to me. But I am up for it. I think I will try my hand at the alpacas and llama one - so cute.

Thanks for the great set of images Paulette. Here's my line drawing of the boy and turkey poult. I have a LOT of these baby turkeys in my barn right now. smile.gif

I'm not sure if I'll add some colour with coloured pencil or perhaps graphitint next. Let's see what happens...

Is that Gracie in the second last one? I remember drawing her before, when she had been clipped. She looks much fluffier now.

Just tried this. Completed very quickly, about 3 minutes. I did it like this because of my tendancy to 'fiddle' There is something to be gained it seems from working very quickly!

Hi Krysta,
Just remember that you don't have to take the picture as shown, you can crop any portion that you want to draw.
Also lessons like Brenda's Seeing shapes in the photo of a dog's head will help you out.
I look forward to seeing your drawing. smile.gif

I love your line drawings Jeanette.
I should have known that you would recognize a turkey when you saw one. smile.gif
We were moving some baby chicks and turkeys,(younger than this one) that all looked the same to me, even side by side, but Jenny Rose had no problem sorting them out.

Hi Norma, this one is Magic. They both have about a month and a half on their last cut, it grows fast!
Gracie was too crazed to get a good picture. She wanted to get in with the animals and chase them.tongue.gif

Nice work Steve! It's great to just let loose with a quick sketch and see how it goes.

I decided to add another photo of just the head of a llama.
I did my drawing using Brenda's lesson, Emma Emu, as a guide line.
I started with a big circle and a triangle and tried to move along like she did.
I must say it made it very simple to get a decent shape done.

Great outline of the llama Paulette. Starting out all drawings with simple shapes really does help get results.

Here's my quick lunchtime sketch of the llama too. smile.gif

Another great sketch Jeanette!

I can see with your sketch where I went off on shape, my sketch of the face is more rectangular and yours is more square, something I know is right because I have been struggling with it all afternoon .
Here is my finished drawing.

Wonderful fur texture Paulette, he (she?) looks wonderful, very regal stare there!

Brian, great to see you participating with this wonderful wagon. You know, I have a wagon just like that somewhere in the yard. Or barn. Or field....

And now a little update on my first drawing. I decided on coloured pencil and have started some layers. It may take me til the end of the week at the rate I'm going!

Hi Brian!
That is great, a good one for porky pig. smile.gif

Thank you Jeanette. I don't have the name, but she is definitely female, and maybe pregnant.
The are a regal looking animal and very curious.

This is looking really good Jeanette! I am loving the colours that you are using.

Believe it or not, Paulette, this fluffy lump is meant to be your dog, Magic. I used a mixture of coloured pencils on Sennelier paper and it measures about 6 x 8 ins.

Ha, ha no problem I believe it! Magic is a lump of fur!
This is well done, Norma!
I love that pose of hers.
My other favorite (that I have to catch on camera) is when I am doing training with her. She is nine years old and just came to us at Christmas as you know.
When I am training her, she has this way of looking up at me, with incredibly soft brown eyes, and seems to say "I'm trusting you, are you sure you want me to do this, cause I can just sit over there and watch."

Great work Sveta!
They are very curious creatures, so getting decent pictures was fairly easy.
You caught that curiosity in their look.

The Llamas usually do their business tongue.gif in a nice tidy pile, but they had so much rain that it all washed out and around.
So my boys and I went with my cousin to help muck out stalls. While I was in the yard area I had one come right up behind me, when my cousin saw me startle, she laughed and said that the llama wanted me to blow into its nose so that she could check me out. The next time she came by I did that and she seemed happy to let me continue working. Of course why not unsure.gif , I was getting there s**t out from under there feet. lol

Here is my quick sketch of William.
I made myself stop when I started erasing and redrawing, much more and it would have ended up in the garbage. lol

William just loved the farm and can't wait to go back. He even volunteered to scoop out the chicken hut.tongue.gif
I wish we had 4H clubs around here for him.
