This detailed drawing, of an eye of Shadow the Dalmatian relies completely on freehand sketching, without the help of drawing tools such as a grid. You add the values and texture to her eye, and the surrounding fur, with mostly hatching.

I've been drawing my Golden Retrievers and was stuck on getting the eyes right. I followed your instructions and the results were terriffic. I kept looking at my work because I couldn't believe I'd done it. Thank you for your easy-to-follow instructions.

Now post those golden retrievers with the sparkle in their eyes into your Gallery here at Drawspace. This way we can all see how Brenda did a fine job of fixing you.

I did this eye and was truly amazed at my drawing and myself. You do such a good job of getting the best out of us. I have tried drawing my son's dog and he was so surprised that I got him so good. You say to stand back, look at your drawing and pat yourself on the back. I did. Thanks, Cotton

I just finished the detailed dog's eye and even my boyfriend said it was good!!!
Normally I get these really "dead" eyes, so thanks for fixing this for me. The eye is alive and the blending was a succes, I learned a lot
Thanx

Thanks! I really had no clue how to draw fur until I started doing these lessons. It's all in the smoothness of your hatching, which takes practice. With this lesson in particular, it's tricky where the fur droops over the eye area, because you have to draw
around each strand to make it pop out. If you pay attention and be very patient, it will pay off!
