Hi all,
welcome to Snoopy 101 chuck Jones challenge, my name is Brian David your host. Although I am no expert on this....
Chuck Jones
Born Sept 21, 1912 graduated from what is known today as the California institute of the arts, drew pencil portraits for a dollar a piece then got his first job in the animation industry as a cell washer for a former Disney animator in 1932.
Jones was an Artist, Cartoonist, Producer, Screenwriter, and Director of over 250 Cartoons at Warner Brothers Cartoon Studio. He was the sole creator and co creator of many of the Loony Tunes and Merrie Melody characters including Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Elmer Fudd, Porky Pig, and two of my favorites Road Runner and Wile E. Coyote...and many many more.
Jones also went on producing cartoons for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer including Dr Seuss "The Grinch That Stole Christmas" and "Horton Hears a Who"
Jones was nominated 8 times for an Oscar winning many, in 1996 received an honorary academy award by the Board Of Governors of the academy of motion picture arts & sciences. Although he sadly died of heart failure in 2002, Bugs and his many Cartoons live forever. He will always be remembered by many as the "Master of Animation"
My Challenge
all levels of skill are encouraged to participate.
Simply draw one of Chuck Jones illustrations I have provided below, you may also create your own or use any reference you wish, please no computer graphics, all drawings must be hand drawn, you may use your computer for color or text, but please post your original drawing first.
Hope you all enjoy this challenge,
Happy drawings,
Brian.

Thanks for the comments in the gallery
Brian.
Well, its been raining on & off here all day so I just got stuck into the 'toons and I started with the singing frog, but while I like that contrary amphibian, I couldn't stop myself from laughing at Frisky barking at Calude and putting him on the ceiling!

And as I got older I really appreciated the subleties of the efforts of Wile. E. Coyote and Sam the Sheepdog during working hours.

Sue - I love your Sam & Wil E Coyote! I adore that cartoon. I wish I could find looney tunes on tv more often, I haven't seen those on the cartoon network in years. I also LOVE the pup and the cat. That is too cute!
Alex - I love your Yosemite Sam! He's one of my fav LT characters. I also love that pose of Daffy, great job! :)

Alex I love your Daffy, and looking at Elmer Fudd and Sam just made me think of all the arguments about who was "In Season" resulting in Daffy getting his beak blown off! And your Tassie Devil is great too!
Thanks for the compliments Brian, I grew up wanting to be a cartoonist (never knew how though as it wasn't much of an industry in Oz). So I used to look at characters and break them down into basic shapes - Pluto used to be the one I drew the most. I still go by the KISS principle and look for the basic shapes, numbers and letters (or almost numbers & letters) that I can see in the drawings. Its probably not what others do but ever since I was 7 and noticed that "CoCo" the cocopops monkey had a number 5 in his ear I look for that type of thing in other cartoons.
I can't wait to see what everyone else comes up with! There were so many cartoons that were his!
Oh and talking of old favourites does anyone remember the 'Fractured Fairy Tales'? They used to be on with 'Rocky & Bullwinkle' along with 'Mr Peabody & his boy Sherman' - I just loved those warped fairy tales, I am a Monty Python fan too, so this will give a little insight into my warped mind ..........ha ha ha

Hi all.
some really great sketches you did
Alex, thanks for posting them.
Very interesting
Sue, I did not realize you had a great interest in Cartooning, I hope you pursue your dreams, maybe you will consider hosting Snoopy 101 some time? I wish I had taken an interest to drawing as a kid, and started late in life, though I always loved Cartoons, I guess now I am still a kid at heart.
Thanks so much dear
Sonia, I am feeling much better, what a absolute stunning drawing you did , I found it hard to take my eyes off of , it's so beautiful, your drawings are cheerful, just as you, thanks for brightening my day!
Thanks
Katdyd, I always look forward to your drawings.
I decided to re-do a couple older drawings, so I apologize for not posting my original pencil sketches, and I am afraid they did not scan well, one was a gift for a friend who is a coach and I literally had to design this since I could not find a reference of Bugs on skates,
Happy drawings all,
best regards,
Brian.

Great pic Sonia, and such vibrant colour! Claude cat is such a great character.
I am not really that good at cartoons Brian, but anything I drew for years was very cartoony - or like a logo - nothing lifelike at all. Then when I gave up smoking I went to an art group deciding to do something about what I had always wanted to do and discovered I could actually make things look fairly realistic! It was absolutely amazing to me and I haven't done much of the simple lines of cartoon-like stuff since...........but I still like it and even get carried away and create my own every now and then.

Hi
Sue, by the way I also love your graphite drawings in your gallery , the Beagle is very realistic, you are very talented. I find with Cartooning it really gives us the opportunity to be creative, and can actually put a smile on , I think I enjoy that the most.
Hi
Turrialba, I don't think I have ever seen Daffy this way

your drawing made me laugh out loud, great job! and beautiful drawing as Sonia said, glad to see you again!!!
I have not had much time to draw this week , but thought I would show you all some of my very first Looney Tunes drawings, I was very new to drawing at the time and had never heard of coloring with photo-shop.
best wishes,
Brian.

Brian I love your drawings! Sorry to hear that as your weather improves over there you are getting crook. Hope you get over it quickly!
"Yoiks and away!" I can hear Daffy yelling that now as he tries to swing from tree to tree as Robin Hood! If I remember right Porky Pig was a disapproving Friar Tuck

. Wonderful drawing of him!
Cathy, great Grinch! I have that book on my bookshelves (along with AA Milne etc) people think I am a grown up ha ha ha - the grey hair fools them all!

Hi Sue.
Your memory is very good and I am glad you liked the drawing. In this episode, Daffy tries to convince Porky (Friar Tuck) that he is Robin Hood but of course, everything he did was a failure. For those interested, there is a full version available in You Tube, just to type "Robin Hood Daffy" or follow this link:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mPt0sjn0jSwIt is excellent and it was made in 1958.

I just love all the old cartoons
Turrialba. I first started to love classical music as a child - of course there was the usual Figaro and Barber of Seville that were very apparent, but Vivaldi's spring was behind the idyllic morning scenes in
Sam the Sheepdog & Wile. E. Coyote, plus some of the Looney Tunes had a lot of Jazz like
"The Tale of the 3 Little Pigs" who were jazz musicians and the Big Bad Wolf was always off key trying to join their group (often at the
Dew Drop Inn) I just love the double level in those old cartoons, one for the children and quite blatent jokes and double entendre for the adults.
The cartoons of today are mainly shoot 'em up space cartoons or fantastic creatures etc, very few great cartoons with broad appeal anymore..........makes me wonder what happened to the wonderful sense of humour that the creators used to have.
Does anyone else remember
Johnny Quest or
Captain Scarlet and the Mirroids, they were two adventure types. And of course who didn't like
Kimba the white Lion, Or
Rocky & Bullwinkle (especially the narrator who used to argue with the cartoon characters) , even
George of the Jungle. Almost all were mindless escapism for kids, now it seems that every 2nd cartoon has to have some group of children saving the world without even the benefit of the side of humour from Scooby Doo!
Oh dear..........I will have to shoot my hobby horse again...........sorry, once I get started..........
Got time to make just a couple of them, but would like to draw rest too. Guess that will be later, though.
Surely all these cartoons are really good and fun to draw.
