Here's my first view of Kiora - Jeanette's little granddaughter.

When Jeanette posted this pic I was struck by the eloquence of the hands.... the baby's opening up to the world and yet still defensive... and to the right the hand I take to be the mother's - soothing and reassuring... saying I'm here for you without being possessive.

Immediately I wished to draw the picture... and here I am with it after two days of work.

The drawing presented two major difficulties. First of all the shading... being very delicate baby skin the shading had to be very controlled. And then Kiora's hands with all the forshortening.. those were particularly difficult for me.

Jeanette... I know this is just the attempt of one of your students but I really enjoyed doing it and hope it doesn't rub you the wrong way. biggrin.gif

Rose, as usual, you did a great job. That's my inexpert opinion.

The baby looks so warm even if it's rendered with graphite. Really love this drawing.

As Jeanette said in an other forum, you're developing your own style. I can recognize your drawings at first glance.

Grazie Paolo - you are very kind. smile.gif

Now I'm wondering which album I should post this in in the gallery - whether to put it with the portraits or with just my other drawings. Silly problem I know! rolleyes.gif

That is very beautiful Rose, thank you so much. Your skill withthe pencil grows by leaps and bounds. May I download it and show it to my daughter? I know she would be thrilled to see it.

Again, thank you.

wub.gif Rose,
What a beautiful job on the baby's first portrait. I wouldn't consider this as sucking up as you truely have a great gift it seems for portraits. I think of it more as an honor and as Jeanette stated she loves it so much she wants to show her daughter. I know we will all continue to see great works from you and I just can't wait!!! wub.gif

How many hours a day? Way too many I would say! biggrin.gif Let's say most if not all of my free time. How long I draw depends a lot on what I am doing. If it is something not too intense - like something for a challenge I could spend anywhere from 1 to 4 hours. If I'm working on a portrait which could take me as much as 30 hours I'd say I could easily be spending 8 to 10 hours a day (and night) on it, sometimes more. I don't like to take too long to finish something for fear of becoming bored and losing my "feeling". When I'm not drawing anything specific I'm surfing the net for tutorials, or doing one of the Brenda lessons or reading my art "how to" books and practicing. Yesterday I was practicing noses in colour. Today I tried the eye.

How long have I been drawing? My first post on this board is dated November 29th 2006 - I started trying to draw a week before that. I'm 53 and had never drawn before... never even took art lessons as a child in school.
