Full Version: D02 - Graduating Squirkles
Drawspace forums > Drawing lesson comments > Beginner > D - Squirkling

In this lesson you explore squirkle shading in drawings and then render graduated values with squirkles. By varying the density (drawing the lines either far apart or close together) of the lines, you can achieve many different values. Light values tend to have noticeable curved lines with lots of white space showing. In darker values, the lines are drawn more closely together, filling in most of the paper with squirkles.

Skirkling in gradations is a little harder for me than I thought. It takes concentration. I guess it's another one of those things that takes practice. wink.gif
OH Henry
biggrin.gif : I listen to music call soundscapes and I squikles to the beat of the music. It helps my graduating shade come out just right. I find blocking out the world around me and getting into the zone of listening to the music and letting my hand free to do its own thing works. Try it. Brenda your on line classes are like yoga for the soul.
THANK YOU!!!
O'HENRY

This will need some practice to get a smooth transition between values.

just checking, when its says we should shade in the other direction, should we start with the darkest value squircles and get lighter or just keep the same technique of lightest to darkest but in a different direction?
DeGothia
Very good. biggrin.gif I will try, although my squirkling doesn't look so good...

This is not as easy as it looks but I did pretty good. It takes a lot of concentration. I found that I was not thinking about anything but squirkling. That's good! cool.gif

I must say that this lesson was not so easy.
Here is my squirkling..i hope that i made it good.

I think when i make more this squirkling, then i make it better.

Hugs, Trinity from Germany wink.gif

I had to spend about 3 days getting this right. On the bus, at home... I could not get it done smoothly. Brenda, it would be nice if you posted a video of you or someone doing the squirkles so I can see it in action. This is something you need to see being done. Post in here or on Youtube please. Thanks!

drawing these 'squirkles' is pretty fun wink.gif

Her cometh ma squirkles..

Hi! LOVE the squirkling, but what I had trouble with was the smoother squirkles like in the example image of the telephone and Claire's face. When I try do do squirkles closer together like that, I have trouble keeping the values light, since it's a denser squirkle. I hope to find out how to refine the squirkles to achieve that nice smooth appearance.

not an exiting task, but good to learn.

This lesson really helped me to improve my squirkling, though graduating is not so much fun as drawing objects. Still, it's really worth doing. Thank you.

oh man, very hard for me to do this one....

I found this lesson extremely beneficial with graduations of values.
