In this project, you use a grid to draw a soft and gentle frontal portrait of a little girl, with emphasis on correct facial proportions. Hatching is used to shade realistic textures features, hair, and the forms of her face.

I'm a beginner and I think i managed to draw this one pretty well, so it is a good "manual".

Thanks for the great lesson! I needed to work on my hair technique and don't think it came out too bad. BTW, this is the first ever lesson I tried from DrawSpace.com and the second ever portrait I've tried.

The eyes are a little lopsided, so this week I'll have to work on the 'Eye on Melissa' tutorial.

This is just too much fun,
HayTay

HELP!!!! I am having the hardest time getting hair to look natural. I have gone back to the beginner lessons to practice some more and I just can't seem to get it right. I have started this drawing several times because I cannot get the hair to look natural. I really, really could use some suggestions and tips. I just don't know what it is I'm dong wrong.

Maybe the pencil isn't sharp enough? Maybe it it's too sharp?
