PLease don't give up. You have good desires, don't let them down.

Hi sweetie... you can do it if you really want it! That's what Brenda says at the very start of her book and I believe it. I think determination and perseverance - plus a lot of hard work - have a lot to do with it. As that eminent person (whose name totally escapes me now) once said - genius is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration.... so get those tissues!! laugh.gif laugh.gif

Your drawing is lovely and seems well proportioned. Personally I have a mortal fear of the full human figure and have not even as much as started studying yet! sad.gif

The reason it won't let you upload it into the gallery is probably because it is far too large a file. I don't think the library takes anything in excess of 200KB.

Cute fairy Uk ...look at childerens books hun .. some of the drawings are not all perfect .... try to flow with your gift dont force it or expect perfection ...some childeren books if you look at the pictures they are not all perfect lines and faces ... they are a style of the artist and thats okay ...you have a dream dont let it go .
olddad
Good luck UK, I think your current art is great.

hey uk-- i did notice you were gone and in and out for awhile. i know exactly how you feel though. i get so frustrated too. i want things to go faster than they are. sometimes i feel like giving up too. we can work through it together. sometimes what i have done too is look at other drawings and see how they drew it and try to draw it the same way. also i did and still sometimes do is get tracing paper and trace the picture that i am trying to draw. i have also done the grid method for awhile. right now i am trying to draw without using grids or tracing. i can not for the life of me draw from my imagination. i tried the forensic thread and it turned out aweful. so aweful i would not post it. i guess it takes practice to draw from imagination. for some it comes easy to draw like that but not so easy for the same people to draw from a reference. i have to have a reference at least for now. i want so badly to get into illustration too. have no clue where even to begin to do that. well i went to illustrator friday site and they have a subject each week--one word subject and you can draw or paint or whatever medium you want to describe the subject. it looks like alot of fun but i havent posted anything yet because i feel i need more practice. i am also having a difficult time using my painter 9 program but i was surfing the internet and came across a book that has tutorials and stuff for painter 9. so i am going to see about getting that. i am also thinking about working with watercolor again, been putting that on hold for awhile but after see rjs gallery he has inspired me to get it out and try again. practice practice practice. you have the desire-you can do it too. i am currently working on my first figure drawing too. its a pin up girl--so far she seems to be turning out pretty good. i will post when i get it done. but it is a copy of another artist. but thats how i have learned. you can do. just stick with it.

Sounds like we have a lot in common wub.gif i have never heard of Friday illustration what is it? a forum? Oh i love illustration work what ya fave type of illustration work? i really know how you feel we cant sick together keep in touch and cant wait to see ya figure drawing biggrin.gif i really know where ya coming from and really know how you feel when you say i get so frustrated too. i want things to go faster than they are. sometimes i feel like giving up too sad_an.gif mad.gif how long have u been drawing? Yes practice practice practice. is the key to our dreams ain't it! well i ain't going to give up!!!!!!!!! biggrin.gif i read this from a book today from Richard box Drawing for the Terrified a complete course for beginner i will share part of it with you as theres so much he talks about its a very good book Why do so many of us stop drawingThe answer is sadly simple. We do not recognise the value of our conceptual drawings, nor do we take the necessary steps to learn to draw perceptually. As we grow, our critical faculties develop, which can be as negative as they are constructive, and we soon learn to judge our attempts as inadequate.Insensitive remarks from adults such as Whats that supposed to be? are hardly helpful.Alongside this we are taught that writing and arithmetic are more, rather then equally, important.[/color] Consequently, many of us neglect to continue to practise any of our drawing skills. Many years later, when we attempt to draw again , we are appalled at the results.Once more we are focusing on a negative view of the end rather then on what might be an enjoyable process of exploring the means irrespective of result. theres more in the book but cant type i up sad.gif stay in touch Hugsxx wub.gif

thanks uk- yes for sure lets keep in touch and when you feel down just pm me and i will try to cheer you up. i love that passage from that book. he is exactly right. i use to draw when i was younger but just like he said--my parents taught me that reading and writing and learning an office job or factory work was so much more important. my brother was really the more talented one. he could draw anything. i mean anything, from imangination or picture or life. he usually drew in pen. just a regular pen or markers. he was always so down on himself. never thought he was worth anything his whole life. i wish i had one of his drawings now. i dont know what happended to them. i just recently started drawing again when i joined this site. it will be almost a year now. and i have been drawing something everyday. except when i was sick. your fairy does look really good. did you do that from imagination? if so you did way better than i could. im not sure what illustration that i am really interested in. i thought about childrens books maybe. it really fasinates me. the whole process. it also sounds so hard. illustration friday is a forum too. check it out but dont freak out because everyones stuff is really good. they do awesome work. like i said i have checked out people work and introduced myself but havent participated any yet. keep going and dont give up because you have the desire. you will get where you want.

That's the fear in you that I think all humans have when they are trying to do something they love. It's the fear that you cannot do it. Funny, I was thinking the same thing in my ride to work this morning. Yesterday, I drew a portrait of a girl on a new type of paper that I have never used before. I really didn't care for how it turned out especially since my one of Eva turned out a lot better (ee gallery). But I had a talk with myself. It would be hard for me to draw if I kept thinking I would never be any good since I'm really tyring to make a go of it professionally. I have to think I'll get better if I keep on practicing and corresponding with the types of artists that I admire and are really good. My advice to you is to keep drawing everyday and challenge yourself to drawing projects. Look at others work and see how they draw. Imitate them. Brenda's work and instruction is excellent. Try doing a lot of her instructions and keep doing them until you can do them better. Keep the drawings you don't like or think could use improvements and see where you are in say a few months. I am sure you will see an improvement! I have been drawing since I was 8 years old and have gotten out of it for a long time. Two years ago, I started drawing again after almost a 20 year absence. I have to remember I have to be patient with myself otherwise I won't achieve the level I want to be. This is a great forum. Don't give up. Sincerely, JanJan wub.gif
