Good list, Darus67 - I think this will work for everyone. It may not be the most popular thread but I think it's a good one to have. It is something that everyone can participate in from all levels of experience.

If the popularity of this thread is dropping off, I like the idea of only running it every 2 weeks. I'm glad folks like my list. I also like the 'free spot' Kim added. Now I s'pose I should go draw something.

Either that or canned peas are 2 for 1 at your local grocery,

A cup of tea, well I got this one for Christmas and was told it was a cofee cup, but since I haven't use it yet, it could be a tea cup. No tea in yet cause I don't drink tea or very seldom drink tea.
My modest contribution to this challenge. [attachmentid=2972]

I was wondering the same thing.
When I was making the list I briefly considered being evil and asking people to draw their own dominant hand.
I thought better of it because so many people say that hands are hard to draw anyway,
why make it any harder than necessary.

Try it. It was not that hard really. Just more stopping and starting. The cigarette was actually my pencil.

Here is a "free spot". [attachmentid=3152]
It is not such good, the reflections and the light and shadow areas are not so good. It was a sketch while watching TV with one eye.

Hey you're all doing extremely well!!
I chose the free spot and tried a couple of firsts for me - a full human figure and the Lyra oil based skin tones that Jonie sent me in her box of goodies at Christmas. This is a little statuette that stands on our mantelpiece in the living room. The first pic is the preliminary sketch in graphite and the second is the same thing in the Lyra oil based colours.
[attachmentid=3179][attachmentid=3180]
Not a terribly good tendering but at least I think I got the proportions right.

Feb 27 2007, 07:51 PM
Connie,
the "still-life" of the toys is great. Is it be called still-life too???
Kin,
how can THAT be??? Shame on you...
Rose,
this statuette is so funny! I expect that every minute he sais: "Now sit down and be quiet! And open your books at page 211."
You see, the "free spot" is good.
Do you like the oil-based pencils? I have the whole set (72) and love them very much. I didn't knew that skin-tones are singulary available.
Did you use the "Rindsor & Newton - Cartridge" paper? By the way - I have this paper too and today I tried to use with graphit and it is very very good.

No Martina, for this drawing I used a medium grain paper, also by Winsor and Newton. I started playing with the Lyra's this morning because I am seriously considering a portrait in three (or four) part harmony - i.e. three or four shades of brown which would give it an old time look. There is
a class about this on WetCanvas which was pointed out to me yesterday. The class uses Derwent Drawing pencils but from their description it sounded like they are very similar to the Lyras.
These are my scriblings from this morning.
[attachmentid=3181]
The Lyra's are fun to use and also blend well but their size does not make them the ideal medium for a small drawing like my statuette, even though my drawing is actually as big as the statue itself. The skin tones Joanie sent me are mostly meant for coloured people and asiatics. They're a set of 12.
Traumsonne
Feb 27 2007, 09:56 PM
Yes, the Lyras are fun to use, I love them. And you are right, for small drawings they are not so perfect. For details I use "Verithin".
I don't know the Derwent Drawings (I tried out the "Artists" and "Coloursoft") but I know that the colors are very different to the Lyra's. They must be coated, only sepia-colors and colors "lik the old masters". and from description they are much softer than the Lyras.
I also use light or medium grained paper. Or pastell paper (like Fabriziano). It depends on what kind of texture I want to have.
Now I go and have a look at the class on Wetcancas. Thanks for the link.
PS: I use a sharpener with battery. That makes the Lyras VERY sharp and pointed.

A cup of tea and herbs!

Done so quickly. I have trouble with cups, so that's what I decided to do! Though, I wouldn't have been able to do it tomorrow and I only had a bit of time tonight. But I did it anyway!
