Vijay - that is fantastic. You really got the realistic look to the wildebeast. I love the shading on the horns that makes it look that way. Good job on the fur also. Way to go!

Here is my Magnolia (?). It is the first flower I have drawn.
All of your drawings are so wonderful that I couldn't help and make a drawing too although at first I thought all of the pictures were too much difficult for me.
But I was astonished - I am able to do more than I know. This is the great worth of these challenges - greenhorns like me get the heart to do it and with every try we get better. This is the best that could happen to me to come to this forum.

Yes, definitely this is the added value of this challenges.
1) You see the ref pic
2) you figure out a masterpiece that will be hung in a museum
3) you realise you cannot do a drawing that worth the paper it is on
but if you go on...
4) you start drawing and you feel better
5) the finished work most of the times surprise you
6) you pat yourself on the shoulder and sometimes you show your work to relatives and friends.
Love this site, love the people 'round here.

This is exactly my biggest problem. Paper is sooooo expensive and I mostly think my drawing is not so good to be on such a paper.......
But this problem is becoming smaller and smaller with every day here.
Seb,
the boy is so great. I love the little nose you have drawn. Especially because noses are something I can not draw yet. I try and try but all "my noses" look like a little hill in the face....
Siksnosparnyte,
thank you so much!
For the flower I used a 2B graphit pencil (in USA the grade is 2 I think) and then I used colored pencils (Rembrandt Polycolor) - and made a very very light layer of light ochre at the magnolia. For the background I made two light layers of apple green.
Today I MUST have a little color, our weather is such grey and dusty!

I had a hard time with the flower for one major reason I couldn't make it small enough to fit the screen of my laptop ( I know ....lame lame excuse

) I find that I end up concentrating on smaller details initially rather than doing a basic outline. I habit which I hope to correct.

ok ok, I threw the rock so I have to deal with it.
Choose a post:
1) Dissector, one week will come when I'll be the host. I will have a pic of the sky in the night for reference: pitch black. I know you'll make it brilliant.
Man, I really love your rendering with pencils.
2) Dissector c'mon, keep on posting this garbage. When you learn to draw let us know, ok?
3) hey man, this is a drawing forum. No photographs please.

Thanks Rose.
I have to say I'm not very happy with this paper. It's too much rough. At least I think it is. I feel comfortable with it when I just quikly sketch something but when it comes to the details, it's a mess.
The label on the final cover says "Sketch spiral A/4 110 gr. 70 pg - by Bluekover.com"
Last night I was drawing and I drop the pencil onto the sketchbook, well you won't believe me, I was not able to find it anymore. I'm sure it's on the very bottom of one of the grooves.

I just love your sense of humour Paolo!

Yes, I thought your paper was a little rough which may be good for some things but perhaps not ideal for pencil drawings where you want a certain amount of detail.
Looking around I found
this site which may be helpful to you. Unfortunately it doesn't say in the specifications whether the paper is smooth or textured but the first pad on the list looks very interesting. I see that over there you also have Winsor & Newton which is what I use. Recently I have been using a 220gsm smooth surface which is not pure white but it has been giving me excellent results.

Thanks for the link Rose.
I've taken a quick tour on the site and I think I'm going to change my sketchbook. But not now. As humble beginner I know that practice makes more than paper. So first I have to finish this one, then another one I bought a couple of weeks ago (that seems to have smoother surface) and finally I'll break in an fine art shop and collect some good stuff.
See you on the other challenge: I'd like to try the trumphet. I don't know why but I feel like I'd be better at playing it than drawing it.
