Hello.
I try to draw a Whale in the Sea . The Whale is not so difficult
My Problem ist to draw realistic Water with Refections on it. blush.gif
Someone can help?

Vito I take it you are drawing from imagination right? Drawing reflections on water may be a little hard to do without a reference. However you might perhaps study other references and adapt them to suit your purpose.

Take a look at this for instance:

Or perhaps this if your water is slightly more agitated:

this should be alot of help because i myself have a hard time drawing water or glass ..it throws me off ...you are a big help rose .

Reflections of objects on water really are no different than anything else that you draw. Its more a perceived difficulty.

Try breaking down your subject into small sections instead of tackling the whole thing at once. And draw what you see, not what you think should be there. I agree with Rose, unless you have many many many years of experience in drawing, accurate reflections are nigh on to impossible to render well unless you have references to refer to.

Study some reflections in photos and see how they would apply to your whale image. Also if you could post your image so far, it would help others to give more accurate advice.

Hi Vito,
the thumbnail looks very good.

I could open the drawing, but it was too large to have a look at and my PC nearly broke down *lol*.
Can you scale it down, maybe at a size of 800x600 or so?
IslanderNL
Vito, you've got the right idea here. You need to increase the contrasts in the water to reflect the shadows that make up the reflections. Again, have a look at some reference photos to see how similar reflections appear.

From the thumbnail that looks more like a dolphin not a whale. And since I thought it was going to be a whale I thought the water was going to be way more agitated.

It looks like you have the idea though.

I think it must be a Beluga-Whale. They look like big white dolphins with a shorter nose.

Very cute subject and I think you got the right idea on how to draw the water. I agree with Islander--more contrast. Very nice drawing.

water for me is hard to draw so i tend to stay away from it .. see i will never learn .. just like the horn in the challenge .. its reflections scare me so I dont try . I need to change my ways lol
