Hello everyone,
BrianDavid asked me to take over his week. So here I am. I believe I have picked some interesting photos for you.
As an added challenge I would like to see get well, get up and get moving cards for BrianDavid (He is finally having that knee surgery)
This challenge is open to everyone of all abilities and we love to see new members join in. This challenge is for you to challenge yourself, not against others.
Please enter with pencil, charcoal, pen or colour pencil. (drawing mediums)
All the photos are taken by me or my husband. Your welcome to use them for this challenge.
I look forward to seeing your entries over the next week.

Paulette, I love your pictures I think every body will. Hope everything goes good for Brain, best of luck.
Farfallina
Thank you for stepping in Paulette. Good choice of pictures. I think I feel the lure of that shiny metal! biggrin.gif
Traumsonne
Nice photos Paulette. Is it your son?

I think this week the challenge is challenging too much for me. wacko.gif

Have a nice sunday all. smile.gif
paulette4
Traumsonne,
No such thing as too challenging, the dog photo is one of the first that I tried after doing Brenda's lessons on drawing with lines (the C lessons) Linus the lion and Kayla koala. It is actually a perfect way to teach yourself to see shapes in what you are drawing. Here is my attempt at that. If you are beyond that then there are lessons on a dogs nose, spotted fur and eye, in the I lessons.
Yes it is my son.

I was scared beginning on it. Always think that some things are to much for me.

My husband said to just do it and see what the outcome will be. Well, here it is... Wandering what you all think of it.

Have a nice day!
Mecharver
Here is my contribution for this week.
I had to draw something today.
I like animals so here is the dog picture.

Xtheax

Good work.
You have the right idea, just jump right in and draw.
And you know what, the more you do it, the better you get.
Keep it up.

Paulette
Nice sketches. Keep up the good work.
Cyn
Great choices! I see everyone likes the dog. I love the look of it too. I'm waiting to see someone do that Mustang or trumpet. I love those. And I love faces, like the boy and the kite. Well, I love them all. laugh.gif Unfortunately, I forgot my sketch pad and I am always gone on the week-ends. I can hardly wait to get home and start on this challenge..

Prayers and good wishes to our Brian David. I had that knee surgery 4 times. Well, twice because of an auto accident and twice because I thought I was tough and started waking without crutches too soon. rolleyes.gif
Farfallina
Xtheax and Mecharver!!! Lovely dogs! Well done.

The best of wishes to Brian.... he's in my thoughts.

This post has a very distinct purpose. The trombone/trumpet (don't really know what it is! ) is such slow going that unless I commit myself there might come I point when I could seriously consider giving up. So here I am committing myself with this first view... I won't be allowed to stop now will I! rolleyes.gif

Mercharver,

Well Mecharver - I could try to impress you and tell you that I know exactly what a trumpet looks like and how it would reflect light and it's surroundings. But I'm not the sort of person to do that. Basically all I am doing is looking carefully at the reference and putting down the values as they occur one next to the other on my paper. I'm not drawing a trumpet .. I'm just putting marks on my paper and the trumpet is drawing itself. That is how I always work. Whether it is even the right way to do it I don't even know!

Well Paulette - I've given you your second post. May I stop now! laugh.gif laugh.gif

I think I hear the horn calling me. ;-) I'll try to squeeze it in. I have two more young boys to sketch for a customer. I finished one of them after the dog challenge.
Mecharver
BRB

A very good start, Farfallina. I was studying that photo and thinking what a challenge it would be to get the smoothness and reflections of the instrument. I think I'll just watch your progress.
kim1963
BRB nice portrait of the boy ...you must do this for a job ?
thank you everyone on all the nice comments .
Southern cross i think i will set back and watch as they do the horn .. its too advanced for me .

Well, this is what it looked like when I finally went to bed last night.

[attachmentid=3132]

I think it will take me another 3 to 4 hours to finish it.. and then perhaps another hour to go over it seeing the big picture (as against all the detail wacko.gif ) and make the necessary corrections.

After that I will come back to ask whether you want me to put in the shadowy background as well. That is quite challenging in itself since it too is reflective and not your ordinary sort of dark background.

Oh my! Oh my! what did I let myself in for!!! ohmy.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif
xtheax
wow everyone is doing such a good job. I love your dog BRB, and your portet is awsome!
Mecharver, your dog is very cute, hope to get as good as you someday.

It's fun to see 1 picture and so many different doggies.

Have a nice day you all
racedolls
brb i have to agree with everyone else- awesome work. you did a fantastic job on that dog
rose wow that horn looks really great. i love how you captured the shiney brass. awesome work
Lori
Mecharver
I just had to do the car. Mustangs are great.
[attachmentid=3139]

So the Mustang is nice, but I prefer a faster looking beast.
This is why I did some modifications to this beauty.
Body Kit, Low profile slicks, Dual exhaust, Rool Bars, Flames.

Wanna Race Anyone! biggrin.gif

Traumsonne
Okay, here is my little dog.

And - Paulette [attachmentid=3142] - it is only your merit that I had the heart to do it.
Farfallina
Mecharver - very nice car/s. I can see you love your baby!! biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

Martina!!! Wow girlie - good job! See.. as Paulette said, never say I can't do this - you'll never know until you try. And speaking from experience there will be at least 10 moments during a drawing - particularly in it's ugly stages - when you think it's not going to work and you feel like giving up . But that's precisely the moment when you need to push yourself a little further mentally and truly believe that with patience the final piece will be wonderful! I'm really proud of you!

As for my trumpet.... well, basically it's done. But I have not signed it. I'll wait for you verdict as to whether to call it done or else go on and give it its dark reflective, shadowy background.

[attachmentid=3143]
Traumsonne
blush.gif Thank you so much, Rose.

I "ate" (it's translated from german phrase and means I absorbed) everything you all said to me and it worked. I am no more scared of doing a drawing and I practice a lot. Even when watching TV... *lol

Mainly when I see what you all are doing with a pencil. The trumpets are awesome!

Well Rose, frankly speaking: it's a big mess. You better start again from scratch. sleep.gif

I really think this trumphet is one of your best works so far. Congrats.
You jump from portraiture to shiny metals, from colored flowers to landscapes with such an ease. I have no words.
paulette4
BRB,
Looks like your going to have a happy customer. smile.gif
JTF,
I can't wait to see what you have for me.
SouthernCross,
I've seen your work with pencil,(the ropes) it might be challenging but you have the ability to do this. Take each piece and work it like it is on its own.
Kim,
I've yet to see anything you couldn't do. And this is supposed to be a challenge. smile.gif
Lori,
I hope you will give something a try.
Mercharver,
Great job on the mustang. I am going to have to hide the upgraded one from my husband. tongue.gif
Traumsonne,
I knew you could do it. Great job with that white fur. Now you can do anything!
Rose,
Wow! I think I vote for back ground. It is just my counter (green with wood markings) but it looked to blah at first. So I bumped up the contrast and got just what I wanted. Of course you could always improvise, sheet music?
Poldone,
I hope you'll join in. smile.gif

I thought you would say that! rolleyes.gif biggrin.gif I just hope i don't ruin it... Oh well, at least I already have the scan of it.

Here goes... wish me luck!

Sign it, and call it "dam good job"
kim1963
Rose ...I feel like a broken record with you lol .. awsome job ..I am so in awe over the chrome .
Martina ...nice puppy .. I love the eyes very glassy looking .
Mecharver ...cool cars ..I know boys like their toys ...but dont you have a party to go to lol .
darus67
Mecharver - Great custom work on the Mustang.

Rose - Beautiful trumpet. I like Paulette's idea of sheet music as a background for it.
paulette4
Darus,
I hope you'll try one of the photos.
SouthernCross,
Did you post your picture, or are you posting later? I don't see it.
Paulette
Mecharver
Thanks all for your comments.

Rose
Nice trumpet, just lovely.

Traumsonne
Great drawing too.

Kim
The cake is in the car. The sandwiches are all wrapped, good to go.
The gifts I will wrap as soon as I finish this message. Still have 1 1/2 hours to go before the supper.

Thanks for your concern. lol

I like Paulette's idea of sheet music as a background for it.

It is a good idea but I don't think it will work well in this case. There is already a lot going on in the main subject... adding anything else might cause confusion. I'm going with the dark and the shadows as they appear in the reference.

Farfallina
I think it's really done now. Where's Satchmo? laugh.gif

[attachmentid=3150]

paulette4
Rose,
Beautiful job!
Paulette

Very good trumpet valves and very realistic. Do you also want to draw Satchmo? I think that would be also very good.

Oh Rose,
the trumpet is wonderful! I really can hear Miles Davis!

Thanks everyone... I really enjoyed doing that one ... well most of the time! rolleyes.gif
