Rose,
may I ask what kind of paper and what grade of pencils you used?
And

- please draw Satchmo too, I love him and a portrait must look good.

Amy wonderful! The trumpet looks really attractive in colour!
Martina: For graphite drawings I am using 220 gms Winsor & Newton smooth cartridge paper. It is very similar to Bristol smooth although it is not pure white. For the trumpet I used mostly 2H with some HB for the darker areas of the trumpet itself. In the background I used HB and 2B.
And no, I will not draw Satchmo!
Goodnight everyone... it's been a good day!

Wow. I said I wanted to see that trumpet and it turned out more beautiful than I imagined. You girls are amazing..
The guys are amazing too. Everyone has really done some wonderful stuff on this challenge..
So here is my humble pic. I know he is cuter than this.

So why is it, that AFER you upload something you can see all the mistakes that didn't show on your computer after the scan? Hmmmm

Hi Cyn,
I know what you mean, my computer is very rude that way also.

You did real good with this picture. Don't you feel better for drawing something summery?

As for my trumpet.... well, basically it's done. But I have not signed it. I'll wait for you verdict as to whether to call it done or else go on and give it its dark reflective, shadowy background.
Sign it, and call it "dam good job"
I followed the link but I couldn't find a trumpet anywhere. Am I missing something?

I determined that trumpet to be a real challenge. Haven't had much time this week to give it a try, though. Probably couldn't come close to Rosa's. I have enjoyed watching that develop into an impressive work of art.

SouthernCross,
When you quoted Rose, I thought you were talking yourself, that you were doing the picture. Sorry.
Not every piece has to be perfect, we are happy to get quick sketches also. It is good practice, especially for eying up a piece without aids. That was my goal for the dog and horn.

I generally use an A4 size paper which is more or less 11.75x8.25 inches. The actual drawing is 10x7 1/2

Paulette: You should see how many of these challenge drawings I have saved on my computer

. I always check them out and see so many wonderful pictures that I would like to try but time doesn't seem to be a friend of mine lately(3 kids, 12hr shifts at work, housework that never seems to end). I am hoping though, to be able to take part in this one. Rose and Tismyself have (as usual) done amazing jobs with that trumpet and it makes me want to try it. The realism is tremendous and they give me so much hope that I too may be able to achieve that. I also just got some stonehenge paper that I am dying to try out so perhaps later today I will push everything else aside and try to find some "me" time. Thanks for the invite!

Nice drawing, glad you were able to join us.
Juniperdime,
I hope you will be able to do that. Life can get so busy at times. 12hr shifts

do you get less days (3 and4 instead of 5 and 6)? Don't forget sketching keeps us limber for the real drawings that we want to tackle.

Yes Paulette, I do only work 3 days per week but then coming home to a 24/7 job with the kids (12, 4, & 3) and the biggest kid (hubbie....lol) I seem to only be able to find time at night when the kids have gone to bed and by then I am either too tired or I get frustrated with the lack of lighting in my house. I promise to try this one though...how many days left? I am also about 5 hours behind the website time so I always seem to be late for everything..lol!

Everyone is still doing great stuff and here I am again with Zena this time. I use my little Strathmore Sketch pad 5.5"X8.5, and sometimes draw bigger than I have room for.

3 days is more than plenty on that schedule.

You have till Mar. 3rd. But you know by know that we all monitor anything that gets posted. Because it comes back to the top. So post anytime that you are done. At the end I will do the little display thread, like I did the last time. Even if you are late I will add your drawing. Just so you know you can post on any of the old challenges. I look forward to seeing your work.

Thank you for the kind words. The encouragement is appreciated and no matter how feeble my attempt is, all of you find something redeeming about it. No wonder I love you all.
I love the challenges that are so hard that I don't know where to start. Like the trumpet.

I look at it for a long time and roll it around in my head to decide wheather I really want to try it or not. I get bored easily and with something like that, there is no chance for boredom. All you need are a lot of erasers and determination. And I mean a LOT of erasers.

So you are in Maryland? I went to Maryland State for a while when I worked for the federal gov't. I lived in Glen Burnie, Odenton and Baltimore for about 10 years and worked at Ft. Meade and for and around NSA and the Pentagon. Lot's o' time in DC. Ya know what I mean? I really miss Maryland.. My fav place, Annapolis... Then ended up back in Southern Cal.

Glad you're here and your art is great...

It is a Boston Terrier. Paulette said it somewhere below.
I thought it is a french bulldog - the look like this cute little one. But when I googled it, I saw the differenz. This Terrier looks much cuter. Maybe it it this special person of dog.
