This is such a wonderful site. I enjoy reading all the posts, viewing the wonderful art. It gives me something to work towards. It's nice to be encouraged by everyone to draw. I have arrived at a few conclusions.
1. If you wait for the inspiration to draw , you will be waiting a long time. I mentioned in another post, that sometimesd life gets me down and just dont feel like drawing. Well, I realize now that does not matter. Even if I can only draw for 15 min, I am farther ahead than I was 15 min ago. I found a great quote:
"As practice makes perfect, I cannot but make progress; each drawing one makes, each study one paints, is a step forward." Vincent Van Gogh
2. I was one who believed you had to be talented to create art! I now know it can be a learned thing. Sure, some of us will have to work harder than others but in the end, will be the same result. Another quote:
If people knew how hard I worked to get my mastery, it wouldn't seem so wonderful at all. Michelangelo
I guess the old saying holds true. If creating art were easy, everyone would be doing it.
3. You have to study the masters, surround yourself with art, be involved in the artistic community! I have always loved art of all kinds. I have a number of statues and figure studies in my home. This site is an incredible place to get ideas(the challenges), share with others, get help when your having troubles, etc.
I am excited what the future holds. I am going to draw much more, even when I dont feel like it. I sketched a paper clip dispenser on my desk a few minutes ago. Even that helps in my artistic path.
With pencil in hand,
Jon
