In this project featuring a detailed drawing of a dagger rendered from a photograph, artists use contrasting values to identify its forms, textures and patterns according to the lights and darks created by the dominant light source.

My jaw dropped when I first seen this dagger, I've done some photorealistic sketches before.
In truth I really had to look 4 times to see if it had been draw or photographed.
Going throught the steps on the lesson shows that it is real.
Truly fantastic work.

I found this lesson to be a lot of fun. Although my dager did not turn out exactly like yours, I was amazed and very excited watching it come to life on my paper. Thank you for providing this web site and the valuable experience you have.

Yes, me too. I'm really interested to see how other people go with this. I might try it out next weekend or whenever I have time (aka, not much homework

).

I too was quite taken with this dagger drawing. I gave it a try myself. However, I don't care too much for the harsh contrasts of hatching and cross-hatching (personal opinion I guess), so I chose to blend mine out. Here is what mine turned out like....

Ok....got it that time....just didn't take the first time I guess. Funny how you do something on a computer the second time, no different than you did the first time, and get different results......gotta love em....
