Hiyas
I'm not very good at helping people at this kind of stuff but this might help: http://www.drawspace.com/lessons/lesson.php?id=m01
It's a lesson about putting fur on stuff, so maybe it will help you get the texture of your dog's fur.

One more thing, just like all the other members said, don't be afraid of the dark. Put on more dark values. That should make it better.

And maybe, if you are copying this from a picture, maybe you can post it here so we can point out some things. smile.gif

Good luck. happy.gif

You have the outline of the dog in place but now you need to see the values that give the dog its particular face structure. The values are areas of light and dark that indicate shadow or highlight. These can be difficult to draw in some animals, depending on how dark or light the fur is, whether it is short or long hair, etc.

Look carefully at the animal and see where the values change from light to dark and indicate them on the dog. The value changes are the only thing that give the animal its shape, so careful observation is necessary - and lots and lots of practice. smile.gif

Do you have an image editor, like photoshop or gimp? because if you have, you can convert the picture to grayscale. And if you want, you can adjust the contrast to fit your taste. That should make it a lot easier to see the values that you have to draw. happy.gif

Study your reference photo. The only white is the highlight in the eyes. You need to shade everything a light grey then go over the darker areas with a softer pencil, 4B. The darkest spaces should be nearly black. For the very darkest spots use an 8B or an Ebony pencil. You can pull highlighhts back out with a kneaded eraser if needed.
