I've always loved drawing, from scribbling with markers to drawing Faces, iv'e always had a passion for it. though, I was never good at it, I spent month"s" trying to learn how to draw fur on animals, or trying to get that sorta "Sheen" on a matalic object, my perspective is off, and my shading needs work, whenever I try to draw anything it just doesn't look right. I have the Basic materials of an amituer artist, 2H H F HB 2B 4B 6B 8B penciles 3 charcoal penciles soft medium and hard, also I have 2 charcoalet blocks and a kneedible eraser. and more stuff, other than that I just have blending pens and ebony penciles etc. so for "stuff i think i've got it covered. I just mentioned that so you wouldn' say "go buy some drawing penciles" or something like that, the lessons on this site are a bit confusing, I've done the vase face thing a million times it did nothing. now the seeing shapes in a Dogs head might help. But I just didn't want dont you guys to say "read the lessons" so could you guys give me a few pointers, im terrible, and believe me I know practice makes perfect. I used to be bad at the piano almost 6 years later i'm an adept songwriter. so I just need some help with genaral things like basic shading and perspective. i don't need complicating information. just basics and ill start there.

thanks.

hmm..lets see, when working from a color photo, turn it grey scale and turn up the contrast a little, concentrate on the three values to begin with, light, medium, dark, you will grow from there, also have you tried gridding your work? sometimes turning the ref photo upside down helps,
when doing hair and fur the eraser plays as big a part in the creation as does the graphite..

I am sure someone else will pop in here that has lots of skill to help..just keep checking back..

Hi Eli,

Welcome!

The best thing you could possibly do -- I know, I've seen it work many times now! -- is post your drawings here on Drawspace and ask for constructive criticism. For best results, post in the forums -- for instance, post some drawings right here in this thread. This site has a lot of talented, generous, and kind people who will be give you great advice -- and we don't tolerate mean-spirited criticism, so you have nothing to fear.

Anyway, the sooner you show us what your work looks like now, the sooner we can get you on the road to success!

How do I post my drawings on here, do I take a picture of it then copy and paste. will that work?

To post a drawing you need a scanner or a camera. Save the scanned image or upload the picture from your camera on your hard disk in your pictures folder. Both images should be JPG. format, let's say 800x600 pixels for the largest pic. Then You upload the files from your computer as attachments in a post in this thread.Good luck!
