Full Version: Should I use a table or an easel to draw?

I am having a problem figuring out which way is the best to learn to draw. It seems I see the proportions as I draw better on an easel, however, it seems a little awkward trying to draw up in the air this way. Does anyone have suggestions or can tell me what they use?

A third alternative that a number of people use is a drawing board. I have a 20x30" board that I hold in my lap, at an angle; I clip the drawing to the top with a binder clip and the bottom edge has a tray for holding pencils. Other people have a real drafting board -- a table that slopes towards you, but not nearly so vertical as an easel.

I find that drawing on a flat table leads to distorted drawings; a board slanted towards you gives you a better view.

Thank You, I shall look for a board. My drawings are coming out distorted and maybe that is why. Thank you for the feedback.
