Nice work Gaz. I finished all the "Beginner" exercises and in the end I had an epiphany...the object of this exercise, and all the other exercises, is to show you your "not so strong skills"--so your result was a total and complete success!
I'm still not satisfied with my hatching, shading and fur (gee, how I hate fur!)...then again, it's important for me to hold the thought that Brenda Hoddinott has been at this for 25-years and I've been at it for 4 months (and you've been doing it even less). Don't be disheartened, just do an exercise or two, then relax and draw stuff that you find are fun--color in your stuff with pencils, ink, crayon or paint. Pick up a book on beginning sketching or painting a subject you like (landscapes, cartoons, etc) at the library and try a few exercises in that book. Don't make it a chore--you're not building a rocketship--this is supposed to be challenging AND FUN.
Don't get stuck for too long practicing more spheres and hatching (boooorrring!), or get hung up on this lesson and not move to the next...keep pressing on....in the lessons that follow, you'll definitely get to practice them more and more.
Thank you Pelican for your words of encouragement, your soooo right. Ive only been drawing for a few weeks now and i suppose im still eager to see a vast improvement in my work. That wont happen unless I also produce the "not so good" renderings. If everything I drew was pleasing to me hen I would never learn lol.
I wont get too hung up on one particular thing either, like yu say we must all press on with things and improve at our own rate.
Ive taken another look at Baldy and I guess its not sooo bed afterall lol
I too have bought afew books on drawing but I seem to been drawn (pardon the pun) everytime back to this site, as it has such a great spectrum of techniques and advice and ofcourse a huge amount of lessons.
Thank you again for the advice Pelican, I think I can get back on the rendeing road to happiness once again lol.
