There is too much spam here to deal with. Each time I log in, my mail box if full of reports and the forums are full of spam. I've become a cleaner, pure and simple.

I'm sorry, but I have better things to do and will concentrate on art, not spam.

To any admin who reads this, Brenda, anybody: I just looked at the manual for Invision Power Board (the product that this board is running on), and email validation for new members is, in fact, a feature. Turning it on would likely reduce the amount of spam. It should be a 5-minute operation for an admin to turn this feature on.

I know how you feel...that's the way it has been for a long time. I'm lucky if I have time after deleting spam to look let alone give advice. I have spent over an hour deleting spam just this morning!!! As fast as I delete it comes back with a vengence!!!

It should be a hard task to accomplish even for a rude man, I think a lady shouldn't face such things.
Maybe all this messages will fall without you to catch any of them but I take this opportunity to thank you for all your support.

Yes, its true that Invision has a number of checks for joining a forum, from complete freedom in joining (which I think this site has) to a complete lockdown of the registration process, and the joiner has to wait on an admin to allow them to join...
While the downside is that the admin will have to deal with all the requests, the upside is that the spam will be greatly reduced... Its better than watching every good poster in here leaving like rats scurrying from a sinking ship, because if its true about how much spam Jeanette and the rest of the mods have to clean out...then this ship is truely sinking...fast. Sorry for the analogy, but thats what it looks like...
Can we give that a try techs??

Aren't there more admins/mods? And why isn't it possible to confirm the subscription to our forum by email? This would reduce the spam.

Oh - and why can't we block or kick out these spam users? Today it has been the same names as some days ago.

Martina there are 5 of us mods all together and its the same for everyone. Last night I signed online and came to drawspace at about 10:30PM and deleted all of the spam in the threads, I counted 39 all together from the Welcome thread to the Technical Support Thread. Then something came up and I signed off for about an hour to sign back on at 11:45PM. The number of spams doubled when I came back to Drawspace. On top of that one of the spammers was going through and adding more spam after I had gotten most of it deleted!! Like they were doing on purpose. So its not just Jeanette and Laura, its all of us getting fed up. For the moment I am staying and will continue to fight the spammers but it is getting tiring cause like Jeanette has stated Art is more important to me than deleting from this site.

Paul, thats a wonderful idea for the techs and I am keeping my fingers crossed that it happens soon...

Unfortunately, its illegal to kill them.

I find it so hard to believe that there is enough return on investment to make it worth
paying people to do this. I can't help but believe that someone is deriving some sadistic

First of all, I have been down with the flu for the past couple of days and hence, not doing my fair share of getting rid of the spam. I'm feeling a bit better today, so will try to do more.

Jeanette, you do so very much around here that I more than understand you not spending your valuable time deleting spam. Hopefully this will all be cleaned up in a few days. Please focus on spreading your sunshine. You are an invaluable asset to all of us who have the pleasure of your company. Thank you from the bottom of my toes!

To all moderators - please do only as much of the spam deleting as you feel comfortable with. I fully appreciate that you all need to focus on art. This spam crap has only been around for a few weeks, and I sincerely hope it will soon be gone, so we can all get back to what we love most.

Thank you to everyone for all for your patience and for offering wonderful suggestions for dealing with this. I can't imagine that you are more frustrated than I am. We'll all be very relieved to have this gone. For me, I chalk it all up to growing pains. Our forum has grown large very quickly and I suspect these spam idiots have finally noticed that we are a busy place; hence, they are preying on our popularity to spread their smut.

Moderators, I discovered that if I go to "View new posts" as soon as I log in, the spammers are all together in a clump and therefore much easier to delete. I expect many of you already know this, but just in case you don't I thought I'd try to make it easier.

As soon as I log on I delete them .. and have no problem doing so ...it takes maybe 20 min to go through and get them ...I know it can be a pain but I would much rather they be gone .. I also dislike the spammers ..with time they will get borded and stop ( crossing my fingers )

well whatever you all did it must have worked for now i havent seen spam since lastnight..when i was on lastnight at this time 2:14am there was a ton of them....i dont know how to delete them so i couldnt do anything....how do you delete them?

you cannot delete them. You must be a Moderator or Administrator to have such privileges on forum items.
What you can do is just reporting and, as Brenda said, is always welcome.

I really hope Jeanette has not disappeared ...her direction will be sorely missed by all of us if indeed she has left. lets hope she stays. !!!!!!

I moderate on another large forum and know how much of a pain these people can be. If you need an temporary extra hand just to deal with these spammers until you get the issue sorted I'd be happy to help.
