Hi there,

I'm also from the uk, and have started learning to draw, although I have never done any kind of drawing before, so I have alot to learn, and practise. I have mostly been trying life drawing, but want to attain some skill in all the major categories of drawing.

I think the drawing buddy idea is cool, so if you want drop me a line and we can chat on messenger or something.

Cheers,
Henry

Hi UK artist
I am sorry to hear of your illness. I just paint for a hobby. I am self taught, mostly I have painted in watercolour / oils but I have not painted for about 3 yrs. Feeling rather rusty at the moment but I am trying my hand at graphite drawing. I am coming along with it but very slowly.
I was born in the UK ( Manchester) I came out to Australia at the age of 21. I am now 62. Love Australia.
I wish you all the best in your art work. Happy drawing smile.gif

You already have created your own style of which i think is fantastic .. its not repetative which i find such a breath of fresh air .. people often just copy which isnt a bad thing as its a great way of learning but they tend to ommit thier own style/flare which makes it different from what they are copying.. i always tell people to add their own style to a piece of work to make it unique .. and you certainly have done that in what ive seen of your work smile.gif

Hiya all,
As some of you know I am new. I have been doing drawings through diffrent books that I have purchased at Amazon.com (mostly colored pencil books). I usually find a lesson in one of the books and just do it. I really enjoy animals and flowers. I guess you would say I like the pretty stuff mostly. I have been to alot of diffrent art forums and find alot of artist who like the gothic art and no offence to anyone find it just grotesque. Thats just my opinion. I also like going out with my digital camera and taking unique pictures of flowers and animals that I find amusing and try to draw them. I guess you would call it my creative side. I feel like I have to imangination to come up with anything of my own. I mean I can't just sit down with a pencil and paper and draw. Is anyone else like that? I also can't draw people to well so look forward to alot of the lessons on this site to practice. I do have 4 beautiful children that I hope I get good enough at drawing that I would love to do art of them. I have been married for 9 years and been with my husband for 10. I occationally take an art class at a cancer center where the procedes go to help with their healing arts program for families with cancer. No one that I know of has cancer but the money donated is worth it for a good cause. I have had realatives in the past die from cancer and my grandma is a breast cancer survivor. The lessons are also far a few but thats ok. I am sure I will have lots of free time when 3 of my kids start school soon. Well enough blabbling about me.

Hi,
I have been doodling most of my life but never really took it, or anything that serious before. Then last summer my 12yr old wanted some help with a school project, so i produced some artwork for him. It was so obviously not done by him that he refused to use it, but my wife thought it was great.

Anyhow, she bought me a watercolour set for my birthday and i produced 2 portraits of my brother and his wife. They went down so well that she then bought me a watercolour painting course with the OCA for Christmas, and here i am 1st assignment in and loving it.

The course is at,
www.oca-uk.com/courses/painting/pt1b.php
Is this similar to the course you are doing?

Here also are the portraits i did, that started it all.

RJS,
Those are good as well as the tiger you did. I do know that water colors are a hard medium. To control the water and brush and do what you want with them. Have you tried watercolor pencils? They are pretty fun too. I did notice with them that your water colors tend to come out better too in my opinion.

Never tried them, though some of the people i have spoken to on other sites rave about them.
Maybe i'll give them a go, get my wife to buy me some for my next birthday, lol
No doubt she will get them, but i'll end up paying!!
Venus

tongue.gif heh just kidding

those are some fantastic portraits i tried painting portraits with water colours but just couldnt get the hang of it .. landscapes im fine with but i can never get the skin tones right with faces . .. im not too bad with arylics though funny that blink.gif
Eric
Fantastic job RJS. You really have the watercolors down when you can render faces and clothing like that. No wonder your wife is emptying her pocketbook for you. She sees her future when you're out of there. Look what happened to any of the big guys like Picasso, Monet, and Van Gogh were they rich while they were painting? I don't think so!

Again, marvelous work.
