Full Version: Weekly Drawing Challenge - June 14-20, 2009

Welcome to the Drawspace Drawing Challenge! My name is Marisa Galitz, and I am your host for this week. The rules are simple: I post some photographs, you draw one or more, and you post your work. Then we can all admire the results, and discuss them. Post as many drawings as you like!

I've chosen a variety of (hopefully) interesting photographs, some easier than others; I've posted color and black-and-white versions of each. You can get the most out of a challenge by stretching yourself: try something you normally don't draw, or try a new medium, or a new technique. As your host, I will be more than happy to offer any help I can give, everything from instruction to suggestions to critique: just ask!

Technically, this is a drawing challenge. I want to see work in pencil (graphite or colored), pastel, charcoal, crayon, pen, etc; but if you post a watercolor or two, I won't complain. We generally frown on digital art in these challenges.

Without further ado, here are this week's photos from my trip to Southern Bulgaria and Vienna.

You're welcome Carol. Since 2002, it has been my duty to share my travels with friends and family. I realize that many people can only be arm-chair travelers. They seem to appreciate my attempt to bring them along with me by writing about my journeys. Some folks tell me how tired they feel after they read my adventures smile.gif

Nothing pretty about this, especially compared to the beautiful photograph, but I am just trying to get back to sketching. Working that hand eye coordination.

I've decided to have a rest with the Rhodopi women. Since watercolour is not banned, I was tempted to try a watercolour, but light changed, so I'll post it unfinished - it's like a sketch. Thus I will feel obliged to finish it some day.

Excellent (unfinished ?) aquarelle, Sveta17 ! I like it very much (have you missed the feet by taking the photo ?)

I've tried my new sketchbook and it's bigger than my A4 scanner. I'll have to scan parts of the image and then stitch the parts...

Amazing reference pictures, Marisa!
I don´t know if I will be able to find some free time to join your challenge but I will try...

Hugs,
Sonia.

Paulette, your sketch has a nice gesture motion. Did you do it in ink?

Lovely as usual, Sveta. Your palette of colors is very strong.

I think the size is fine .. I have the hisgest speed internet but some have a lower speed or even dial up and they miss out on seeing the images because they take so long to download. might concider that .. its one reason mine are so small .

I love the water color of the two people .. awsome job and the glass with sugar in the bottom .. dang ! very well done two really challenging images.

Honestly, Marisa, I usually post my work in the smaller size because I would prefer that my artwork not be downloaded and this site does not have the capability to lock your images. (Sorry if some of you don't agree with that - I feel each of you has a right to say who can download your work because once a work of art is completed the copyright is in effect and it IS your work.) So, if I make it small there is probably not the interest in downloading it. But, I will enlarge this one in the original post. smile.gif

Barbara, One day, I forgot to log in, and opened the DS. I saw that all the drawings have been downloaded several times. You can open the DS that way (in logout status) to see how many times your work (in big or small size) has been downloaded ohmy.gif

Thanks for the closeup. If you want to reduce the size again, that's fine. It was just so lovely, I wanted to see it better smile.gif

I was going to draw the two girls, but then I decided just to go for one - easier! I used coloursoft on Strathmore. It measures about 10 x 8.

Hello again everyone!
As I promised here I am joining your wonderful challenge, Marisa!

As addicted to color as I am, I just could not resist your lemons...
So here it is a sketch in soft pastels on an inappropriate paper! tongue.gif I don´t have paper for pastel works at the moment!

Since I am not at home right now, I was just able to take a picture of it with my mobile... I will substitute this one for a better picture when I get home!

Hugs to all,
Sonia.

Update: Already changed the picture! wink.gif
