Full Version: Grid Method

Ok, so on this week's challenge I opted for the bunny. I saw it mentioned somewhere that a grid would be a good way for me to enlarge the image and make it easier to transfer. I couldn't find the article again but I thought I understood it well enough to give it a go. I broke out my 4H and my ruler and made a pretty little grid on my sketchpad. When I started actually shading and working the image, I couldn't figure out how to get the grid lines off the paper without ruining my reference sketch, so I left them thinking I could hide them in the shading. It worked for the most part, but there are still huge areas where the shading is so light that the lines are incredibly visible.

Where was this article? I know it was somewhere on this forum, but I couldn't find it in a search.

What should I have done differently? I saw mention of a light table, but is that the only way to make this method work?

How can I save it now? unsure.gif

P.S.
I tried to scan it. Of course you can't see what I want you too. dry.gif

IMO, 4H would be awfully hard to draw a grid with without denting the paper, making it impossible to erase.

What I do is erase the grid, carefully, after sketching and before shading each section.

So should I have gone with more of a 4B?

Here's the drawing. Maybe you can see the lines. I can't smile.gif

Personally, I use an HB to draw a grid. I had erasing problems when using a 2H.

P01- Ashley has a good grid lesson. 1" grid template has a bunch of info. When we did the portrait class, we did the grid and line drawing on rough paper(scrap) then transfered it to good quality paper, with no grid.
