Good Morning Drawspace community,

I was thinking that with the number of members from all over the world that it would be great to see drawings of our local heros. Being from Canada, mine would be Terry Fox. He is now famous across the world because of the continued efforts of his foundation.

Who is your hero?

Why, Mr. Blazin' Sun, OF COURSE!

That could be an interesting thread Sean. There are lots of heros out there, both at national and local levels. Perhaps people will be inspired to draw them and perhaps if they turn out well, it may even be a good idea to offer the drawing to a specific charity or cause that the individual is involved with to use as a prize or auction item, etc.

I'm sure that you meant really popular heros, but this is my favorite local hero. He is also my oldest son.

He's from Middle Tennessee in the USA. biggrin.gif

If you'd seriously like to know why I think he is a hero you can email me. smile.gif

BRB, I would love to hear why he is your Hero. PM me. I was not intending this to be about people who are famous or well known, but for a hero who is important to you, no matter how big or small. The stories that accompany the artwork would also be interesting.

I had to do a little research, but I have decided that my hero is Dr. Fredrick Banting. He invented insulin and lived here in Ontario. My mother in law would not be alive if it was not for insulin. She is 74 years old and has been battling diabetes since she was in her 30's. Her mother died in child birth due to diabetes, and her older siblings have died also due to diabetes. Not only is she still living but her quality of life is high because she has the ability to control this disease.
I like Jeanette's idea of donating the picture to charity. So I am going to tackle this picture like we did in the portrait class. I hope you all don't mind if I post my progress as I go along. Please give comment and critiques.

Paulette,

What a great choice. Being an insulin dependant Diabetic myself, I can certainly understand the great significance of Banting's and Best's discovery.

My own list of heros is growing by the minute.

Great drawing, great man. My father had Type I diabetes and all the complications that went with it, so Banting in some ways is responsible for me being here. Without his discovery of insulin, my father would not have lived past his 20's.
