What Ho! Me old fruitcakes! smile.gif My name is Steve and I am your host for this weeks challenge. It was difficult to pick out just these photos from the vast array of material I have, But I hope you are able to take part in this challenge, and I hope you enjoy yourself! smile.gif

All levels of drawing are encouraged to participate!

The goal of this thread is to enable and encourage individuals to practice their drawing skills, learn new techniques and have fun! If you just want to sketch that?€™s fine. If you want to create a complex, detailed drawing, that?€™s great too. You will get out of this what you want. The references used are from my own personal reference library of images that I have photographed and I release them here as not under copyright, meaning you can use them as you wish for drawing.

You will be challenged by some aspect of all references most likely as you all will have different strengths and weaknesses in your ability to translate the images to paper.

Reminder:

This is a DRAWING challenge. Therefore please confine your artistic endeavours to some form of drawing: graphite, coloured pencil, pen and ink or charcoal.

There is no ruling on what size your final drawing or sketch should be. Smaller, sketchbook sizes will provide a smaller file size which is easier for loading onto the thread.

If you would like assistance or advice, please ask for it and I will be more than willing to try to guide you.

This challenge will last for one week. At that time, all challenge drawings should be submitted to this thread.

I have offered 3-5 reference images to choose from. The images are also provided in greyscale. Seeing the images in black and white gives a better sense of basic values.

I have kept the images to simple shapes that still provide challenges. Block out your basic shapes first then work the details into them, rechecking proportion and measurement against other reference points in your drawing.

If you have an interest in hosting a challenge, please see the list in the pinned area of general discussions.

oh and i just made adjustments to my roof..funny how you can see things better when scanned
Songsparrow
I've just started the hut as well. If I can get the scanner working, I'll scan what I have now. I decided to use just a 4b pencil on this. I may add some colour with my new watercolour pencils later. smile.gif
oliverandjazz
here she is..lots of fun in this one, I can see improvements in my perspective. I should have used my wc pencils on the walls..I still have yet to mix and match, I bet that would work nicely

That is excellent! I'm going to have to start mine again. I've placed it too far left and too low to get everything in!

First attempt at the weekly challenge smile.gif

I tried to draw the one with the pier in Somerset. It was really hard getting the building and the rest of the background look natural with all the fog so I only scanned the part of the drawing I was happy with, haha.
Adobeiro
Wow, Great challenge, Steve!
Your references are spectacular!!

I won´t be able to join in because I am going away on holidays this week, but I will certainly try some of your references later... wink.gif

Congratulations to all of you who posted already some drawings! They are wonderful!

Happy drawings to everyone!

Hugs,
Sonia

Hi Nap! And welcome to Drawspace. Glad to see you taking part. If you are having trouble with this picture, try using a very hard pencil for the background. Maybe a 3h, then use a very soft pencil for the foreground, 2b - 3b. That should give you the correct recession. smile.gif I'm going to try that one myself now!

Kay.

You drawing has a very similar look to the Beryl Cook pictures (one of my favourite artists). I am looking forward to seeing the finished item!. smile.gif

Sonia. I hope you have a wonderfull holiday. Where are you going? (Take lots of photos') smile.gif
oliverandjazz
thanks steve, the drawing wasn't so bad but i started losing lines and edges when the paint went on..I did this picture with a 10 round, I ALWAYS forget to change brushes for the smaller stuff..

Sonia hon, you have a great and safe holiday and a hug to go for ya

Nap that is well done, skies can be difficult..I am not so good at those

smile.gif Fantastic! The perspective is a bit off but I think that adds to the whole! It looks even more like a Beryl Cook now. Which is wonderfull! You've even managed to shave a few pounds off my wife! happy.gif I'm sure she'll be delighted!
mumwond
HI Steve - love your selection of photos- they are all tempting, but I couldn't resist trying your old friend Max. I used various graphites on Mellotex and it measures about 9" square.
Songsparrow
Wow! Norma, that is spot on! It looks just like him. I'm glad somebody had a go. It's a bit beyond my skills! Well done. smile.gif
mumwond
Steve - I couldn't do anything like your watercolours, they're really good. I don't want to be pushy, but if you and your wife would like the original, I'd be only too pleased to send it to you. I've got your address from the ATCs. I would only be putting it away with all the rest of my efforts.
Songsparrow
That is a very generous offer Norma. We would be delighted to accept! Thank you so much! In return, I shall send you one of my watercolours. smile.gif
oliverandjazz
that is wonderful norma, excellent!. and you sound like me hon, all my stuff gets shoved under the bed
mumwond
That's great Steve, thanks a lot. I'll get mine posted tomorrow. Kay - I've no room under my bed, but I've a kitchen cupboard stuffed with my 'masterpieces'.
texaslady-59
Norma ..you are so nice .. what a sweet drawing..and so accurate.. Steve I think you have a precious memory to frame ..I would be so excited to receive such a tribute..

Carol, that is fantastic! I received the drawing from Norma today! It's even better than I thought! And I thought it was brilliant in the first place! I am so happy that you girls attempted him. I have tried and tried but never got anything like a resemblence! I was so annoyed with myself, I commisioned a local artist to do his portrait! It cost me a packet! I wish I had known you girls then! happy.gif
