This is one of a series of three portraits that I am embarking on...sorry it's been a wee bit since I have been around...the house is still bursting at the seams and I am still squeezing drawing time in around work and family.

I started this last month...but I have only about 25 - 30 hours in so far.
I'll just a catch you all up to speed......

Thanks for looking...
Laura

Laura...I am a beginner and love these "work in progress" threads. One can learn so much when seeing a drawing develop.
The clothing looks great to me, especially the shirt and bandanna (sp?). How did you achieve this look? Did you use hatching and blending? What pencils and leads did you use? As you can see, I am full of questions blush.gif

biggrin.gif Wow laura, Long time no see!! Is this one of the hubby's band members? It looks great so far. Is there a reference? So how much longer is the extended family staying? My sister finally moved out and I fing it kinda boring now without all of her drama...LOL. Its great to see you though. I saw Jeanette was on for a bit earlier as well. Both of you have been M.I.A. So everyone misses the both of you so you need to start making more time for us here at Drawspace..Right now I am working on a picture in colored pencils of a birdie surrounded by flowers and a little dragonfly. Gonna mat it and frame it and give it to my bestfriend as a late birthday present. Will show it after I finish..hehehe. happy.gif

Christine,

Questions are a wonderful thing...never stop asking them...it's how we continue to learn!!! This is 11 x 17 inches on water color paper...that's why you'll see texture coming thru. I use mainly a 2HB mechanical pencil for the really dark areas I layered an ebony wood pencil over manay layers of 2HB mech pencil. I blend in between layers with a homemade tortillion made of copy paper. My final layers of graphite are usually unblended. I use whatever stroke...crosshatching or circles or squirkling...that will get the job done.

Paul,
Thank you very much!!!

Venus,
I'm around more than you think...hehehehe...I usually try to check once a day or so...I don't always have time to comment though!!!! I'm glad things are settling down for you and I can't wait to see your birdie!!!!

Kim,
Hi, Sweety!!! Thank you and I'm trying to convey textures that I haven't really attempted before...so this is something of a challenge for me!!!

Paulette,
Thank you for taking a peek!!!!

Thanks for looking and commenting!

Great drawing Laura!

I like very much how you rendered the face - he seems to mile directlly at the viewer.

Laura, pardon me for coming so late into this thread but I couldn't post.

I just have to say I sit here and learn. Your treatment of the velour texture and the folds is an education all in itself.

Thank you for sharing this.

Always good to see a new piece from you Laura. And this one is no exception. You make it look almost effortless.
