You're doing a great job! He is sooo cute! wub.gif
I'm no expert but here are my suggestions;
In order to make the most of the highlights you need to go darker on top of the head, along the muzzle and on the neck. It needs lightening in the ear where the hair is thinner and needs more shape inside the ear showing the structure.
Hope that helps a little. wave.gif

Beautiful dog and, of course, great drawing smile.gif

I agree with IRBaboon. And I think you could also try to drawing fur with short curved hatching lines if you want it to look realistic. If it's hard to you, do some of Brenda's lessons. They will really help you smile.gif

And keep those pencils sharp!

smile.gif Ewall, I would suggest you take the picture and use a program to turn it black and white. If the program you have has it also try using the posterize on it that way it will be easier to get the dark tones and overall values in the reference. I usually use PSP (Paint Shop Pro) to do mine that way and it helps a lot.

Ewall, great drawing so far! And a lovely dog, but I don't envy you doing black fur. Its a challenge, especially with a flash photo reference. However, success with it depends on contrast.

You've been given great advice here so far and I'd agree. Deepen the shadows which will increase the highlights on the animal's face giving it dimension.
