Danielle has one goldfish, but I can tell by the look on its face that it's trying to figure out parthenogenesis.

I've never tried to raise egg layers. And, it's been nearly thirty years since I had any experience with live bearers.

The forty plus babies made it throught the night ok but the local pet shop didn't have any more net breeders. biggrin.gif But, I was given a thirty gallon tank, but I am cleaning it and will put the fish in it tomorrow. It will be ok if the mother guppy will wait a few days before she has her fry.

hey brb
i use to have sword tails and guppys. the guppy will eat there babies. they have tons of babies all the time. i stopped putting mine in a breeder hatchery thing. when they had them the babies would run for cover. and it cut down on some. or get a seperate tank like you had said. because they will just keep on having them. Right now my son has our tank and he has an oscar in it. a big one at that. he raised him from a baby. he is about 2 and 1/2 years old. my other son i said before has a rat and he just got a ferret for his birthday in may. he is so awesome. i will get pictures as soon as i can. i have to get my sisters digital camera. the oscar when he is hungry will come to the front of the tank and bang on it til you feed him. he will also jump up out of the water to get food from my sons hand. they have teeth and will bite but he doesnt bite my son. or my husband. there isnt any decorations in the tank because if we put them in there he will rip them up and throw against the class tank.

laugh.gif LOL Lori, thats cool. Your son has a fish with a personality!! Thats seems pretty rare and like something you only see on TV cartoons for kids. I used to have a Beta fish but he died. It gets too cold and drafty in my house and I think he froze. He was really pretty, too. Good luck with the ferret they are mischeivious little critters but loads of fun to play with.

Discussions of rabid fish? laugh.gif I love this place! But I wanted to ask a whole other question.. What do the the names over the little blue squares under the avatars mean? Like: "new-comer", "Enthusiast" and so on.. Or what I really want to know is: how do they change? Because mine suddenly did! smile.gif

I believe they're linked to post count. You're a "newcomer" up to 20 posts, then an Enthusiast up to 100, when you become an Afficionado. At some point you become a Maestro -- not sure when.

Ah yes - that would explain my recent change! Thank you

The answer to when you become Maestro came up before. I'm trying to remember what it was. Its probably 1,000 because its the next monumental number and Kim is a Maestro. That is the only member I can remember is a Maestro.

welcome back kim
the numbers are just about how much you post. and i am not sure on how many times before the names change.
venus--it is comical sometimes to watch that fish--his name is bill. the rat is tinker and ferret is thompson and our dog is gater. we named him gater because he was such a scaredy cat when we got him. afraid of everything. he was a coon hound rescue. we figured a hunter dropped him off because he was ill. he had parvo when he was a puppy. which they rarely survive. when we got him he was around like 7 other dogs and a house of people but was real skiddish. now he hates other dogs, some people and everyone is afraid of him. especially when we say his name. we probably shouldnt have named him that. but he does love all of us so i guess thats what matters. my boys wrestle with him and play all the time and he has never even blinked an eye at them. when they hide his favorite toy (he knows it by baby) he will come and bark at me and til i get up to go get it and then he actually prances in front of me as if like to say haha i told on you. he is afraid of the dark too.
your right about the ferret too. very mischeifous-but alot of fun.
Lori
