umm Artists LOL i will recommend you a Very good book called The artists way By Julia cameron

With the basic principle that creative expression is the natural direction of life, Julia Cameron and Mark Bryan lead you through a comprehensive twelve-week program to recover your creativity from a variety of blocks, including limiting beliefs, fear, self-sabotage, jealousy, guilt, addictions, and other inhibiting forces, replacing them with artistic confidence and productivity.
This book links creativity to spirituality by showing how to connect with the creative energies of the universe, and has, in the four years since its publication, spawned a remarkable number of support groups for artists dedicated to practicing the exercises it contains

i love the book every artist should have this book and work though it! wub.gif

When I was young I had mental blocks.
Now I find I'm just too busy to have them.

Its like being shy.
I was shy until it became too much of a barrier to accomplish the goal.
At that time is was teaching... hard to teach when you can't get up in front of people no?
So I know longer had time to be shy.
It was simply too much of a nuisance.

Occasionally I'll slip back into the earlier mode and for no apparent reason... BAM! I'll feel that way again.
Stagefright anybody?

Mental blocks are similar.
The more you concentrate on the mental block the more you'll see mental block.
Get out! Do something different! Explore your world!

Then take that back and put it on paper.
You can have a mental block tomorrow.

(I should only practice what I preach) wink.gif

really truelly honest yup yup im very very shy in person in here its easy to chat to people because you dont have to face them..

Well, it seems as though everytime I read your post Woo, I'm facing you! Isn't that your picture beside every post?

I was never really shy. I could strike up a conversation about anything with anybody, and usually do it just break the boredom or monotony of a situation. Waiting in lines, or looking for stuff on a grocery shelf, etc.. I'll tell you what I found though. People really take an interest when you notice them. Sometimes I've ended up meeting the nicest people who were very influential and wouldn't have known it had I not spoke up when I did.

I hate mental blocks. I take them as a sign to put down my pencil for a day or so and distract myself with something else

Thats a great solution too.
Once they are snapped sharpen them both and then draw with two hands! tongue.gif

If you were drawing a... Mental Block...
What exactly would it look like?

Hmmm.... <one very small wheel starts turning>

Often I don't know what the problem is. I can have an idea, but I can't for the life of me put it down on paper. I lose totally ability to draw for a day or so, all I can do is sit it out

Other times I simply can't get an idea tongue.gif

When I get a mental block, I go out for a walk and study the landscape and think of what happened there before I was there in that place.
I ended up studying celtic history through landscape interpretation on an environmental course I did.
Just by going for walks after a mental block. Helps create a new insperation. by finding out something in my surroundings I did not know was there to begin with and draw it. Past and present.

P.s Eric a Whisky Bond is a sealed wharehouse that nobody under the age of 18 years can work in. The bonding is to allow the control of spirit into and out of the bottling hall in a manner fitting to Her Majesties Customs and Excise Officers to allow revenue to be collected on each litre of Alcohol.

Woo Waves,
Vikings, Celts and the Beach Boys. Never bothered with waves they just surfed the ontop of them. He He. biggrin.gif

Thanks for the warm welcome.

Andy.

I think that a mental block should look like The Scream by Edvard Munch, thats how i think of it.

Ok I have an idea. Everyone do a quick sketch of what your idea of a mental block looks like. No matter how silly you think it may be, draw it and post it. Don't worry too much about detail or getting things just right. Just do a quickie...
RJS
Ok, here is my version of a mental block, though i was sorely tempted to post a blank sheet of paper!!
