If you get the chance, try Colette Pitcher's books about WC and acrylics. They are really great.

Here are gathered very different people around the world. It would be interesting to find more about you all. Are you old or young, what are you do for living, where do you live, how do you spend your free time (except drawing) and etc?
I'll make a start..
I'm 32 years old woman from Estonia. I'm mother of one girl (3y) and two boys (10y and 15y). By the faith I raise them alone, but that's ok. They are marvellous kids and make it easy. I work at telecommunication company as an release manager. Very intensive, but interesting job. Most of my free time goes to children, but if I have some time for myself I like to read and listen music and draw of course
Well, now it's your turn

Hi all,
Great topic, my real life, I am an advertising executive originally from south Africa but living in Lagos Nigeria, on contract to restructure an advertising agency, I manage a number of multinational accounts in London, Paris, Dubai, Ghana, China, Germany, etc. so I travel extensively.
My life in Nigeria,
I live in a high security compound with a chef ,driver, steward and three security guards.
There is no clean water or electricity, shopping malls or supermarkets.
It is a fantastic place, full of life, with over 150 million people.
I have not had too much time to draw lately but I hope to post some work soon.
Kind Regards Wayneo

I am a potter (currently without kilns) and a freelance contractor.
Opted to get another degree in visual communications (mainly for the training, not the paper) to increase my marketable skills while I get a pottery studio in order and such.

Hello Everybody
My name is Margareth, I am 54 years old and I live in Holland, Europe.
In daily life I work freelance as a counsellor and coach. I am married and have one daughter.
All my life I have been drawing but only recently I started working on my techniques because I would like to make drawings that really look like something and not look like a flat exposure of something I put on paper. So I work on my scills as well. Since a few years I also started painting wich I also like very much.
I hope te learn a lot at this forum and I would like to share the things I started drawing or painting on so that I can get tips for improvement.
Greetings from Margareth

Hello Everyone nice to read about all of you (I still have lots to read, lol) anyway My Real Name is Fred (I know, kind of Boring, lol, but I don't mind) I am 42 (oh my, I forgot my age for a sec had to ask the wife and daughter, lol).
I have been married for 22 of those 42 years, have two daughters Amanda (she is my Oldest at 21) and Amber (my youngest at 19, she will be 20 in December). I work as a Customer Service Associate for Cumberland Farms Inc. and have been for 5 years November 11 of this year. We just recently got our store upgraded, so now we are in the food service field as well.
I love to draw, (although getting married as young as I did I couldn't find much time for developing my drawing skills. Now that the kids are grown I think I will be able to find more time to do what it is I love to do, Draw). I also have become addicted to 3d modeling. I have so much fun creating things in a 3d environment. This is what will drive me to start working on my drawing skills, after all the 3d environment is only a tool.
I look forward to reading more about all of you and seeing some of your art. I also look forward to working toward developing my own artistic abilities and sharing my art with all of you.
Have a great day everyone
Fred

Hi,
I'm originally from Jamaica, but grew up in New Jersey. Currently I'm a research coordinator at a cancer hospital in New York. Its not what I want to do forever, but I enjoy it and it pays the bills. I wear many hats, but a few are...I'm a new dad (YAYY!), aspiring web/applications developer and broke entrepreneur (did I spell that right?). For years I've wondered if I'd be a good artist and I'm determined to finally find out. I have a busy life and figure learning to draw will bring more peace and quiet into it. Looking forward to a great experience.

I am Helen. I live in the west of Ukraine. I'm 19 years old. I'm third-year student, so there's nothing so much to tell about my job or something like that. Though i worked in publishing house in the summer. I study english-ukrainian interpreting. My major is English. Also, I learn German and French at university. I like languages and I have great plans for future) I like to draw, but i'm really very slow with it. I can draw one image for a month because of lack of time or absence of desire) Drawing helps me to relax as well as music. I like also reading, especially books by S. Sheldon, J. Grisham, B. Akunin.
Well, I think that's all for now)

Hello, my name is Tessa... I'm 14, I was born in June...yada, yada, yadda.
So, instead of boring your to death with non-important details... here are some more exciting/ important details... that you might be able to relate to. Some of my interests are: A LOT OF DIFFERENT SPORTS. A lot of different things revolving around Art. A lot of different things revolving around music. I play piano, and plan on learning guitar and harp. I am fascinated by archaeology... I enjoy reading and writing a lot. I love design; both interior and fashion. I think skateboarding is cool, and long-boarding is one of the maddest sweet things there is. Places I want to see before I die: The Tree Of Life in Kenya, Australia, France, Brazil, Jamaica, the Bahamas, Hawaii, Egypt, Alaska, and Austria.(The list could go on...) If I could live anywhere... it would be Venice, Italy... Macedonia, Greece... or Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, USA.
Fun Facts About Me: I have no favorite color.
My favorite animal is a snow leopard.
I didn't learn how to swim until the 4th grade.
I like to skateboard- Not saying I'm good at it
My favorite types of trees are Willow and Cherry Blossom!
Hhhmmm... I don't know if posting things about my very personal life is a good idea... but I do somehow feel like we are all a big family.
So....I have 1 older sister named Jessica and an older brother named Michael, from a different dad. They are both in their 20s. Jessica is a waiter, and Michael is an electrical engineer. I have 1 other older brother from the same dad as me named Nathan. Nathan works as an Auto Mechanic, but air-brushes on the side. Nathan is a magnificent artist... and inspired me to start drawing. I was even thinking about dedicating an album to his old drawings. Well... now I have a 2 year old baby sister from a different mother, because my dad remarried. My step-mom is from Brazil. Since my dad married Lucy (my step-mom) I know have family in the U.S., Brazil, France, Philippines, and even Japan. I own a dog too, a German Shepherd mix named Mozart. (After the composer.) I am home schooled, and I do plan on going to college, but have no idea what I would study.(TOO MANY CHOICES!) Well... that's all for now.

Wow its been a while since anyone has added to this section, so I guess I will.
I am 42 and live on the Texas coast. I have lived in Washington State, Oregon, Nevada, Arizona, and of course Texas. I have been drawing from the time I could pick up a crayon but decided when I was a teenager this is how I want to make a living. One day I will meet that goal. Drawing is my passion. I have sold some drawings and have given a few to my school bus kids as driving a school bus is what I do to make the bills. I have no children of my own.

steve there is NOTHING like an ol pub/bar fly..
gotta love em..I know a few of em, and trust me if i turned my back long enough they would be all over my hubby too.
when i was younger there was a game my hubby and i used to play..he would be at the bar and then i would 'show' up..I would be dressed in my trampiest outfit..we then all evening would be 'not together' but flirt occasionally, and he would have a drink sent over to me etc..never letting on we 'knew' each other. and towards the end of the night i would sidle over to him, and make sure the others at the bar could hear me 'proposition him'..it was such great fun!!
Also when i was much younger, at the store and stuff, i would get carded and he would be standing right beside me, I turn to him and say 'uncle gary will buy it for me" I always called him 'uncle gary' in public..it was soooo funny!
We used to go out ALL OF THE TIME...now not so much, mostly because of my skin..I dont drink any more, but i still dance and love the bands.
ROTFL!!! Uncle Gary......tff!!!!

It's many diffrent users here! Im defently the yongest..
Im a 14 year old from Norway. I don't talk much, so I think Im a little bit introverted. I have always wanted to draw or paint, but I never got the opportunity. Also I have played a lot of video-games in the past years, but I totaly lost the intrest about a year ago, and if I say it to my family, they will just laugh, and think im joking (pluss some other reasons). It is no courses arround (that I see), and I just heard abote drawspace, and started 6 hours ago. I don't have many friends, and nothing to do at my spare-time. So I figured out that I culd start painting when I was alone (can't draw when I have others arround me yelling in my ear all the time). So now, In 6 hours, the only thing I have done is taking lessons, and I think I'm getting better alreddy! I am the only one in my family that likes clasical music, but nobody knows that eather. Maby I will edit the post and add something later.
Sorry for my English, it's not the best:/

My name is Terri and I'm English, living in Minnesota with my husband, our two children, a business partner and two cats.
The day job...well it's not exactly a day job but more like a day, night, evening, weekend, anytime I'm awake job. I'm an author, primarily small press and e-press but I'm also the editor in chief of the fiction imprint of a small RPG company. I started leaning the basics of art last summer when my daughter (now 11) showed an interest and I decided to try and learn along side of her.
Well, it's become a second addiction - my first being writing.
Long term, and way in the future, I'd like to get to the point where I can provide some of the illustrations or contribute toward covers for either the RPG side of the company or the fiction imprint. I know that's not going to happen anytime soon but it's a goal.
I'm primarily focusing on drawing and inking, though I've been dabbling in watercolors and watercolor pencils and I have to admit my fingers start itching every time I see the Copic sets in the local art store.

Hello Everyone,
My name is DesiGuusje as I'm here, if you'll meet me in real life, i refer to be called Desiree. I am 18 years old since a few weeks(, just started to learn how to drive..). My beloved and home country is Holland (the Netherlands, Nederland) and I'm in between studies, going from Social care taker to secretary for buisnessmen.. Got my B1 Level exams past with flying colors already!
I like listen to music (good habit), drink sometimes a wine or a stronger drink (bad habit), paint, draw, read (good habit, but not so good for my bookcase..) amd make things by knitting or other techniques....
That'll be it i think....

Well, all the oldies here already know me, but there's a lot of new people here lately.
I'm a 31-yr-old stay-at-home mother of two boys, currently living in New York, married 13 yrs. to a U.S. Marine. We've relocated a lot due to his job, so we've lived all over the U.S. and did a tour in Japan, even visited Hawaii. Now I'm finishing up an Associates Degree in Criminal Justice and beginning to consider getting a job within the next year or so. Maybe join the police force before I get too old to be accepted.
Back around 2007, I took up drawing as a hobby, and Drawspace offered all these wonderful lessons for free. On top of that, the community was active and friendly, and I made many friends here, although I've still never met anyone in person. These days the forums aren't quite as busy, but I still check in from time to time and complete more lessons. My album here titled "DS Lessons" shows how far I've come in the past few years, primarily just from doing these lessons and creating my own portraits from friends' photos and my own. Also, drawing from life is helpful, and I have many sketchbook pages filled with items from around the house, toys, hands, feet, flowers, whatever strikes my fancy that day. It's good to study the depth, form, reflections, shadows of real things around us, it develops the artist's eye.
I created the art group on FB titled "Artsy Friends", it's very active and has over 80 members now, many from right here on DS. It wasn't my intention to lure anyone away from DS, but at the time, this site was down a lot due to upgrading the system and many regulars were fed up with it and quitting. So we migrated to FB, and our little group grew bigger. That doesn't change the fact that Drawspace is still a valuable asset for any individual just learning to draw. And the lessons are still free! So it's nice to meet all you new members and hope to get to know you better. Biggest tip for learning to draw: Patience!! You can't hurry perfection.
