Hi,
I am the 50 year old mother of 2 boys with Autism. The youngest one is severe on non verbal is 16 and lives in a state school. My husband and I live with our 22 year old who has high functioning Autism. He has become more independent. I now have more time to myself and I am trying to find out who I am. I worked on drawing some while both boys were at home. But now is my time to find the real me. I still need to work on helping my 22 year old find a job and learn to take care of him self though. I also have 11 cats. My Hubby works in rice research.

Ah ....well........time to fess up.....I am 50 years young, divorced, no children, and have two almost human dachshunds. I am also a Registered Nurse, unfortunately due to a back injury I can't work at the moment & probably won't ever be able to frontline nurse again. Will probably look into teaching people to become enrolled nurses (in the US I think you call them LPN's).

I started my nursing later than usual, swearing that nursing was something I would never do! dry.gif I did lots of other jobs........Governessed on a remote property, worked in a theatre, managed a section in a hardware store, and was a Veterinary Nurse as well. I have lived in quite a few places in Australia too, Sydney (state of New South Wales), Brisbane (State of Queensland), Tamborine (Qld), Coffs Harbour (NSW), Young (NSW) , Newcastle (NSW), and now near Beaudesert (Qld).

Just to give you some idea of the size of our States here and the distances I moved, Queensland is about 4 times the size of Texas. New South Wales is twice the size of California.
oliverandjazz
holy cow the down under is really very large!!

Kay, we have some English friends who thought that we could take them on a day trip to the Great Barrier Reef from Brisbane - they are both in the same State after all and they looked so close on the map. We had to explain that Cairns was nearly 2,000 km away from us and it would take 2-3 days driving to get there:lol:.

Here is a picture that will give you some idea:

LOL..that is one massive area for sure..lots of room for the roos to romp.

I would LOVE to visit that area, if it werent for the hassles of flying I would see many areas, but i simply have such a LOW TOLERANCE FOR B.S. that it is best for all that I stay put.. biggrin.gif

The last time I flew home a few years back, I had such an aggravating flight...i was simply going from maine to louisiana and the delays, the hold ups, the smell of that closed in plane, the simple lack of courtesy for each other as human beings, well, it just isnt my 'thing'

I got off the plane in georgia..for a 3 stinking hour delay, and there were NO areas to smoke, I asked a janitor, 'sir could you please direct me to the smoking section?" he started talking about me taking the shuttle about a mile away from my departure site and (this airport is massive) getting off and going down this corridor, and out this door, Etc.. I looked at him as though he lost his mind as he was telling me this and lit one up right there..SCREW THAT!
I figured by the time the cops got to me my cigarette would be well smoked..LOL...good lord!! I smoked that puppy right down to the nub, before i seen someone coming down the aisle after me to tell me to 'put it out' LOL
bigs
I gave up Kay - had to do something with my hands and discovered drawing! Good job too - not a good look for a nurse to tell her patients to give up while smelling of the last coffin nail that she smoked laugh.gif
oliverandjazz
this is true...i have or had a few doctors always after me to quit, i had one doctor that actually came outdoors had a smoke with me while we discussed my probs..LOL. I worked at the nursing home, this one guy, bless his heart, pushing 80, had one of them throat holes, (cant remember the proper name for it) been diagnosed with the cancer, they figured he was only going to last another month or so, but i loved this guy..he was the bomb, he had done everything, been everywhere, met all kinds of people, and was such an interesting person to talk to..I miss him actually, anyhoot this guy was a smoker, and being in the nursing home he couldnt smoke, well screw that...that man had merely weeks left in his life, what is a butt going to hurt at this point..i used to smuggle him outdoors with me and let him have his smoke..he would smile, and enjoy the heck out of that..the stories he told me have stayed with me, he was in ww2, a pilot, etc.
I still am down to 'half' of what i normally smoked, not enough i know, but a miracle in itself for me, i hope if and when i end up in the ol folks home, i meet a nurses aide just like i was..i so tried to keep them smiling, i used to tease one gentleman who lost his leg to diabetes, but still had the 'itch' on his 'foot'..i used to tell him i would scratch it for him and he actually felt like it was being scratched.and i used to tell him i was tickling his foot and he would laugh...there was no foot there..
I just adore elderly people, and all they have to share with someone willing to listen to them..

Me too. Before I met Penny, when I was living alone, my local pub was quite full of oldies! They used to make me laugh! Some of the tales I heard were just fascinating! Mind you! Some of those old biddies were up for more than a few tales after a glass or two of sherry! Never had so many propositions in my life! huh.gif
oliverandjazz
laugh.gif laugh.gif biggrin.gif steve there is NOTHING like an ol pub/bar fly..
gotta love em..I know a few of em, and trust me if i turned my back long enough they would be all over my hubby too.
when i was younger there was a game my hubby and i used to play..he would be at the bar and then i would 'show' up..I would be dressed in my trampiest outfit..we then all evening would be 'not together' but flirt occasionally, and he would have a drink sent over to me etc..never letting on we 'knew' each other. and towards the end of the night i would sidle over to him, and make sure the others at the bar could hear me 'proposition him'..it was such great fun!!

Also when i was much younger, at the store and stuff, i would get carded and he would be standing right beside me, I turn to him and say 'uncle gary will buy it for me" I always called him 'uncle gary' in public..it was soooo funny!

We used to go out ALL OF THE TIME...now not so much, mostly because of my skin..I dont drink any more, but i still dance and love the bands.
bigs
Kay, there used to be a bar in a big Hotel in Brisbane that had two entrances to the ladies room. A friend and I used to go there and have a bet on who would get a drink bought for them first..........usually just a dollar, but most nights we never had to put our hand in our purse. The double doored ladies room was very handy because of over amorous attentions..........we'd make our excuses (girls always go in twos laugh.gif) and make a quick getaway from the octopii out the other door!

I love the oldies too........in one nursing home I worked in I was writing reports at the end of the day and had the usual suspects in the room.......the oldies that were a bit demented or couldn't be left alone for safety reasons. One of these was a lovely old spinster who never married because her mother died when she was a teenager and she did the "proper" thing in her time, stayed and looked after her father and brothers. As well there was also an old Returned Serviceman who had lost both his legs above the knee and got about in a wheelchair - he was quite depressed most of the time and had no sense of humour at all.

Out of the blue, Winnie, the Spinster says to Mr G. (no legs) "You, you there.........go up the shops and get me some bread!" ......He says "I can't" .........living in the past she says "If you want lunch tomorrow you'll go and get me a loaf of bread!" ....He says again "I can't!" . Winnie then says "Why can't you !??!!" and he says "I haven't got any legs" and I swear this is true......she yells at him "NO!!! Nobody's got any bloody legs when I want them to do anything!!!!!" .............I nearly hurt myself trying not to laugh till I got out of earshot!!!

Ya know the nursing home routine, 6-7 get everyone up for breakfast, then lunch, then back to bed, etc..GOD THAT ROUTINE ANNOYED ME..
All these people were up all their life before the sunrise, at this time if they want to sleep in i say let em..they earned it, they deserve it..most of them wanted up but there was always a couple who preferred to sleep in and would put up quite a fuss with you in the mornings..so I always climbed into bed with em...''move on over then, if you aint getting up , then im going back to bed too.." I would snuggle in with them for a few mins and ya know ...they loved that..I just snuggle em up for a few, then say ok thats enough laying around, we have things to do...up we have to get...and then they would get up..no fighting, no fussing..I really loved those people.

All greetings!) my name is Ivan. First of all I wish still times to tell thanks founders of the given site, you very much help not only me!) THANKS BIG!

I the mechanic also study as the engineer. Very strongly I wish to learn to draw, and it is not simple " to draw as a hobby " namely I wish to draw as the professional. I know, that will be very difficult, and on it one year will leave not, but " If we knew all and able, it was boring to live misters ")
Always in the evenings, I sit down a computer and I look the most different figures from the most different artists... And me on a shower to become it is very insulting, that in the childhood I could not go to art school... For the most different reasons. And now I cannot go to art school, there it is necessary to study 6 years... And I should work and soon I should go to serve to a marine sea fleet. Therefore to spite of all past, I have decided to learn itself, and I have begun with the book on which I have found this remarkable site smile.gif
In fact at me in a head images soar so much, it is so much representations what to draw and on what theme, but I cannot transfer the ideas on a paper!)
I very much hope, that masters will explain to me and will learn such remarkable craft!) thanks!)

Natasja, I always go by the saying "Reach for the stars - even if you fall a bit short you will be well above the rest!". So you go for it. And remember if you decide those night call outs etc aren't for you then you can modify to another area in perhaps an Allied Health field.

And Steve we were discussing cab drivers here the other day and how so many of the poor devils are new immigrants who have some trouble with our colloquiallisms anyway, and then they drive a cab on a friday or saturday night when some drunk gets in and says "Waaatcha meeeeean China! You dunnnnnooooo where the coathanger ishhhhhh!!!" Translation - what do you mean mate! You don't know where the Sydney Harbour Bridge is!!

I can see where the Tower of Babel came into it! LOL

My full name is actually Ebba Emese Rozalia Niklasdotter, but Ebba is fine. I'm half Swedish, and half Hungarian so I speak Swedish, Hungarian and English while learning French. No occupation yet: I'm only fourteen and still in school! I've recently moved back to Sweden after living in Sweden, Vietnam, Switzerland, Tonga and Cambodia (in that order tongue.gif). In fact I've travelled all the way around the world about four times by the time I was 12. Tonga is a little island group out in the Pacific by the way. I only have one sibling: my twin brother, but I have two parrots and two dogs (:
I've always liked to paint and draw and have recently started doing both again, after a little break. For me, this website is very inspiring and helpful, and the members are both friendly and supportive.

Howdy Howdy
I used to have office jobs and my last one was as a business consultant for a seminar company. Woke up one day and decided it wasn't for me anymore so I went back to school. I have a BFA in ceramics and sculpture and since then I have worked as a ceramic tech for a company that makes germicidal/purification lamps and now I am currently unemployed and have been for a little over a year. So now I have just started doing freelance work online and will go back for a visual communications degree for more marketable skills in terms of freelancing!
Oh and I have recently gotten past a creative block and have started to do more artwork again and working on my drawing skills since they lack a bit!
Agapetos
Hello!

I'm 29 and I live in Slovenia (not Slovakia - people often mistake these two), Europe. Currently unemployed, but actively seeking a job so I can pursue further education and realize other projects in life. I've always been interested in art, probably because my mother was a fashion designer, but I began to draw only recently. I enjoy all kinds of art styles, however, I'm drawn to fantasy, sci-fi and religious art the most. (Nature) Photography is also one of the areas in art that I like a lot; I've been taking photos since I was no more than 5 or 6, hehe. Here's a collection of some of my photos (plus some other stuff). One day I hope to become a fairly good painter so I can finally paint the ideas that have been stirring my imagination and perhaps earn a buck or two in the process.

Other than that, in my free time I like to do mountain-biking, rock climbing & mountain hiking, reading fantasy & sci-fi novels, and exploring the world of GNU/Linux operating system. I've been a practitioner of traditional yoga & tantra for 10 years; recently I begun delving into Zen Buddhism as well. I have a girlfriend. We've been together for 10 years and still going strong, which is really cool nowadays in this modern world of dwindling commitment. That's about it, I guess.
