Hi Kay,
I used to be addicted to all of the Law and Order programs, all of the CSI programs, House, and Forensic Files on TruTV, and anything on the Ivestigation Discovery channel, but lately, I can't seem to concentrate. Must have something to do with this "widow's fog" I am living in.
I thought that you and I had similar taste in political talk shows, but I am finding we are opposites. I am a huge fan of Keith Olberman's Countdown, and the Rachel Maddow show, gotta love a gay woman who is that smart! She is a Rhodes scholar, and has a doctorate in political science and is one helluva great debater and commentator.

Hi Trish, I have never heard of rachel maddow, but keith olberman i have heard of. I like the forensic files and csi as well..
bigs
Well I like House its just his accent I have trouble with..........and I suppose Steve may be the only one to understand this ....................I just seemed to think of "A bit of Fry & Laurie" but mostly of Prince Ludwig the 'Great German Chamberpot' from Black Adder (Parte the 2nd). laugh.gif Took ages to get past that.

I think you girls watch far too much television. Switch it off and get those pencils out!
kim1963
each time I draw a portrait I have less of the colors I normaly use .. my pencils go down so fast ..if i drew every time I wanted I would be penciless .
oliverandjazz
kim, i think your colored pencil work is the best i have seen, i think it is right up there with whats her name,,ooo cant think of it now, but Ernest introduced me to her, i have her books in my library and am too lazy at the moment to go look. but your work is as good as hers..I love it very much.

the doc called and now wants to run a nuclear test?? huh.gif huh.gif
anyone had one of those done? i go on the 24th to have this one done.at least i have someone 'actively trying to help me' I love this dr. he was so good to me during my hep treatments too.
My husband works in nuclear submarines and I always tell him he has a 'certain glow' about him. He has just been diagnosed with the asbestos, a spot about the size of a nickel on his lung, they are monitoring its size and growth at the moment.

Kim,
What kind of color pencil do you use, I only used the prismacolor for the longest time and they do seem to go down fast, I just got the Faber-Castell's and they are a harder lead but I love the way that they do not seem to need sharpened all the time, I got one of the battery operated pencil sharpeners for when I am drawing here and there that really helps it is the I point sharpener got it at wal-mart for $7.50 on sale.. it does not eat up my pencil the way my electric one does..I have been doing color pencils for years love them. tongue.gif Angie...
kim1963
I use prisma I get a smoother look I think .. and I do not have the money to keep changing to see what I like lol I wish I could . The sharpener sounds wonderful I can buy that smile.gif

I have a little battery sharpener too Kim, it can also be plugged in if I buy a transformer that fits - didn't come with it - but I have been using it for 12 months now and only have had to change a blade (I got a pkt of spares and changed at the first sign of the pencil wood being a little rougher than usual) so with the batts lasting like that I haven't bothered with the transformer.

And Shadow I have started to buy Faber-Castell too and find that they are really quite soft in texture but last quite well at the same time (am comparing them to Derwnt Artist's range). So am building up a complete set but will probably add to them with other brands of browns to get a good range for dogs and animals.

Oh dear Steve watching Fry & Laurie, Black Adder and Dr Who is never a waste of time! wink.gif laugh.gif

TrishO116
Now that is how I want to go out...eating ice cream and bacon and fried chicken!! God rest her soul.
oliverandjazz
this morning I was awakened by low rumbling growls..several kinds..the cats had caught a mouse in the cellar and brought it upstairs and was growling and fighting over it and the poodle was standing on the sidelines just a growling away, the mouse got away, and is behind/under furniture now, and all i can think of is 'thing 1' and 'thing 2' from dr. seuss. This is the third mouse they have caught that I know of, so they are starting to earn their keep now biggrin.gif they are i think now working together to get it to come out

Kay, you don't know what you have been missing - loved the new series. And here is some incentive to find the new ones on some channel........

Here is the first Doctor of the revamped series (although it still has Daleks and Cybermen!)

Christpher Eccleston (actually the 9th Dr) Click to view attachment

The 2nd Doctor in the new series (really the 10th Dr) is David Tennant - and I think my favourite Doctor so far - even outdoing Tom Baker, although I still use his line when offering lollies "Would you like a Jelly Baby?"

Tom Baker (4th Dr) Click to view attachment

David Tennant (10th Dr)Click to view attachment

and they have announced that the next one is Matt Smith Click to view attachment

Well I really need to whinge about this! There is a new book in the Hitch Hiker's guide series coming out!!!!

Eoin Colfer is writing it............I cannot believe they are trying to get someone else to replace him...........Artemis Fowl is nowhere the Hitchhikers "trilogy"! The bean counters are in control, obviously.

It's a touchy subject amongst the H2G2 crowds. Some think it's a good idea, others think not! I'm with the latter thinkers. If Douglas didn't write it, it's not a hitchikers novel! I won't be purchasing a copy. If you're an H2G2 fan? try douglasadams.se

Hade a quick look at the forums Steve........seems like it is a touchy subject! I can't even imagine wanting to try and step into someone else's shoes.

I read one of Colfer's that a girl I worked with had. I thought it was quite dullish - had none of the irony and humour that Adams or Pratchet have when they weave stories around well known issues. When I said it was no Pratchett novel and she had no idea who I was talking about, she had never watched the Doctor and had no idea what the answer to meaning of life was either. So sad really.

It seems I am nerd after all....................although I haven't seen an episode of Red Dwarf in years!
Songsparrow
Saw a documentary on Pterry a few months back. All to do with his diminishing mental capacity! Very sad. We're all living longer! But none of us can remember why?
oliverandjazz
i should like to moan about having to give my dollhouse away...I no longer have any room for it, hubby is fussing he needs the space..so it must go, I do not know any little girls to give it to. not one. I have asked at the store and they dont know of any little girls either, how sad..so I will have to donate it to the goodwill i guess..so much work and love went into it..all for what? dry.gif
Ernest Friedman-Hill
Oh, that's terrible. Not the Goodwill! Try to find a school, church, or civic organization that will auction it for charity, please!
oliverandjazz
there is a church down the road a ways, i suppose i can drop it off there with a note..to give it to some precious girl that would love to have it.
i so wish i could give it to a child myself, to see her eyes light up.

I didn't know Steve, but have just read an article that he wrote on it. He has the kindest form (or cruellest depending on how you look at it) with it being posterior cortical. Most people have a frontal and personality is in the frontal lobe, that is why they become a shell so early. Unfortunately while he still has much of himself he has insight into what is happening.......must be sooo frustrating for such a clever man.

I am going to have to tell my best friend's son......he has been a Pratchett fan since he was about 11 and he even called his cat Greebo.

Kay, have you thought of freecycle?? I am a member of the Brisbane Freecycle, its an online group (Yahoo) that you can join easily and people list things to give away and that way you can make sure it goes to someone who really wants it. You can link pics from photobucket and Flckr so that people can see what a beauty it is. Just a thought for you to get it to the right little girl.
kim1963
I found that freecycle has people just waiting to jump on items .. I love the Chruch idea .. because kay it is alot of work and I know some little girl would love to have it ....gosh and where i live there are soo many little girls lol please dig a bit deeper and find her ..she is out there hun .

We call it 'Freeloaders' here now. happy.gif I stopped using it. Apparently, there have been numerous occasions where freecyclers have been found at Carboot sales and garage sales! I think that's a shame. I have used freecycle on many occasions. I have my computer on a desk I got from a freecycler!
bigs
Isn't it a shame to abuse a great idea like freecycle.

At least, for the moment, it seems to be still OK. We even had someone giving away a Hyundai that only needed a new water pump. The owner said that he wanted to give it to a kid newly licenced so they could get to work (I don't know how employers these days can expect 17 yr olds to have their own tspt!).

I hope the local freecycle doesn't get to where people are taking the stuff for boot sales.

kim1963
its sad here ...almost never will you get a email from something you said you needed or wanted from another ...seems here they also will ..say you ask for something and no one emails .. a week later someone offers it .. I dont get that ...so I just stopped all together .
I agree Sue it is sad .
oliverandjazz
hunh, I have never heard of this freecycler, I went grocery shopping yesterday, and asked the two ladies at the register, and they didnt know any little girls either, I fear we may have a shortage of sweet lil girls here in my area happy.gif maybe there is a lil boy around that is a little 'light on his feet' biggrin.gif

We also have people who abuse Freecycle. By the time I get the emails, the items are already gone.

lol. My nephew, when he was very young, used to love playing with my sisters dolls house. We all thought it was a very healthy thing to do. If you see him now, he's a great strapping lad married with two kids of his own. Nothing wrong with boys playing with dolls and dolls houses. Better than guns eh?

shhh...dont tell anyone, but my son had a cabbage patch doll named amy, and he loved that doll and drug it with him everywhere, LOL...

oliverandjazz

hubby is so funny, he says to me "you gross out at meat, but you will eat something that comes out of a chickens butt!! LMAO
bigs
That is so true - you eat drink from lactating cows, eggs that come straight from a chickens bum, ...........I guess we were just brought up in the country way - we killed our own chickens...........I don't think you want to know where they were hung after their head was chopped off.............But then if you make hubby hunt his own would that change his mind??????

The thing that I don't understand is that you girls are into gross horror movies that are full of blood & guts!
