Oh , I was going to say what a wonderful area - real Mists of Avalon territory. Have a great time and if any "moistened bit lobs a scimitar at you"...............throw it back !!!! The job isn't worth it - look at what a mess Charles got himself in!!! laugh.gif

I have to have a moan about how they let the Sunday drivers loose on Saturday! I went over to the north side of town (Iam actually out of town on the south side) and I was cut off by little old hat wearing ladies in VW's and other small cars, had peole on mobiles driving so close I thought they were trying to remove some haemorrhoids!!ANd the number of people who seem to only have two fingers, even though they are the person disobeying the road rules, is absolutely amazing! It should have taken me 1 1/2 hrs and I got there in just over 2 1/4 hrs.

But I managed to get the desk that I wanted for my art - it allows me to just shut it up and keep everything ready to go when I decide to sit down next time. And it frees up other furniture so I can get rid of the delapidated, laminated chipboard monstrosity in the corner with the computer on it ....yeah!!!

Click to view attachmentClick to view attachment

So I suppose my day evened out ....while I b**ch and moan about the traffic, I am just as excited about resetting the art area - even though I will have to move furniture and dust and vacuum behind it all (watch out dust bunnies!).
kim1963
Thats a nice desk ....mine is long I have so many things on mine from my laptop scanner and art supplies but I like to keep things in place .. I do not care for a messy desk ..spilled a drink once and had to throw out some work so I learned my lesson from that .

Steve a weekend away .. wow you already live in London lol thats like saying ...dang this beachhouse on the coast of florida is just driving me mad I need to spend a weekend at Kims lol

Well life intervened as it always does whenever plans are made, Mum has been in hospital and they discovered an arrythmia while she was in......it appears to have corrected itself, but we are now on the doctor rounds, and she will probably have ambulatory cardiac telemetry next week, so that is 2 days in a row down at the hospital.........the dust bunnies are hiding in fear not knowing now just when my sneak attack will start! he he he.......

Mum is doing OK now except that she still gets dizzy on occasion, she has this hideously big 4 wheeled walker which she is using while she feels she could have a fall, but she will not let me get her a smaller easier to use model that actually has a seat. I am sure she feels that if she lets us get it its an admission that she won't improve and then she has to confront her aging, not a fun thing.

Fingers crossed that it was all just caused by the infection that landed her in hospital, and nothing more........I am happy to drive all over town to find out its nothing ongoing!!

Has anyone else here met someone who can't comprehend the word, "No"?

Back in the summer, when I was not covered up in commissions, this guy comes in my gallery and asks if I could go with him to his "retreat" to take some photos of him. I could tell from his conversation, and past experience with him, that he wanted free photos..

So, now, for the passed few weeks, he has been harrassing me and even calling my home phone and being rude with my family, wanting me to go to his "retreat". I have told him in plan English that I am covered up in portraits and it isn't even near Christmas season and that my portraits are my number one priority.

Today he came to my gallery,.. I have a sign on my door saying, "Gallery Closed, please call...for appointments" but my son was visiting me and the door was unlocked, so he comes on in. Then several other people come in. I know them and they are nice people, who wish to use my gallery for a showing of their weaving. But this "jerk" is still standing, pretending to appologize, but arguing with me, and I could tell he was just pretending to apologize, so he could convience me to go with him to his place.

I had to whisper but I let him know that my decision was firm. biggrin.gif

Well of course we can't include our own children we have spoiled. he he he.

Bobby, there are some people in the world who believe that life spins around them, not the other way around.

I'd give the guy a price list and a phone number and ask him to make an appointment. smile.gif

Normally I would agree with you, but this guy had the attitude, "You've got to do what I want." biggrin.gif I just do not like his attitude, it brings out the stuborness in me. biggrin.gif
bigs
Bobby, if I had someone harrassing not only me but members of my family I would advise them that the Police would be called the next time he didn't take no for an answer, and after that police report an AVO would be requested from the Courts.............and that is something that will stay with him. If he does not want this to happen he neds to respect your privacy and await his turn as all paying customers do.....and as Kim said, give him a price list for your services. he he he. But smile and be polite the entire time.......not only do you not have to lie to police about your demeanour, but it really ****** people off when you do that.

Good luck with him - sounds like he has a personality disorder!
kim1963
jeanette said to be nice with a price list , I said get a ppo personal protection order . smile.gif I am not as nice .

oh and bobby stuborness ....your not stuborn are you ? lol
bigs
Who said you aren't nice Sweetie.....just cause you won't take any s**t!! laugh.gif That just means that you are a strong woman (so threatening to some people)

I just need to get the posts straight in my head before I answer.

I have the hospital rounds big time this fortnight! Two appts for my sister this week (I am chauffeur) and then Mum has her heart halter telemetry next week so another 2 days at the hospital.

I am not working in Health at the moment, but I still can't escape doctors and hospitals..........do you think the universe is trying to tell me something????
kim1963
Yes I do ... I feel the same way I have been in hospitals and driving and making calls for the past few weeks for a women across the road from me who is 93 and was in the hospital then rehab ...she lost her son during the same time so I have had to make arrangments and talk to doctors ect...been a long three weeks but she is ho,me now and will have to face mourning her son . I use to work in the hospitals as well .

OK, here is my rant....Back in August, I had an abnormal mammogram. I got a letter from the hospital telling me I needed to contact my doctor for follow up. I called my doctor, he didn't have the official report. Time passes....still no call from my doctor. I make an appointment to see him. While there I ask him about the mammogram. He still did not have the report. He has me get another mammogram and an ultra sound. The radiologist came out to tell me I had a cyst that needed to be drained and there was some suspicious tissue that should be biopsied. The radiologist called my doctor to tell him about my test results. I wait for a call from my doctor to take the next step...see a surgeon. Long story short, no call from my doctor. I make another appointment, get the referral to the surgeon. Yesterday I went to the hospital to get copies of my tests and films. After waiting about an hour, they were no where near having the records ready for me. I left without them, hopefully they will be ready by tomorrow when I see the surgeon. Now I used to work in medical records in a hospital so I know it should not take an act of congress to get my records. This has been a very frustrating experience with added anxiety because of how drawn out this whole process has been. Stay tuned for how it turns out.....

Trish,

any further delays on behalf of your GP and I would be making an appointment with the opening statement that you are finally scheduled for surgery and he had best have some **** good malpractice insurance in case its not good after all his dithering.

It will make you feel better, and your doctor may be a lot better about tests in the future.

Fingers crossed for you Darlin'

Hi Trish - all that carry on must be worrying, but I'm sure things will turn out OK. My medical history is full of things they thought were wrong - only to turn out everything was OK. The doc. though my daughter was a suspected 'multiple birth'! I phoned my husband to tell him about it, he repeated it and you could hear the whole office laughing. Needless to say, this was in the days before scans.
I sent you a PM a couple of weeks ago, but now I realise you had more to worry about. I'm sure you will be fine.
kim1963
Just read this Trish ....I would not be as nice as you hun .. I am very demansding when it comes to Doctors ...they took the oath and I am all over it if there is a problem ....please dear be insistant with them .. do not take "no" or" we dont have them ready yet" for a answer....say it loud and clear ...people work faster when you speak up ...use the word that is so dreaded ..and say " Do not delay this any longer .. what if its cancer ?" that should get them going . My thoughts are with you hun .

Oh and sue .. I had the sucker removed off my forehead ...I was getting too many offers lol

Thank you everyone for your messages of support. Today I saw the surgeon. We have scheduled a biopsy for Dec 9th. Nothing to do till then. I am not worried, until I know there is something to worry about. I was assured today that in most cases this is benign, but there is still that chance. I have a family history of this sort of thing and they were all benign so I am feeling pretty positive about this. I will keep you all informed as I get the information. Again, thank you to all who wrote, I really appreciate your love and support.

I agree. I've reported quite a lot. I sugested before that new members should not be able to post right away as quite a lot of them do that to put on rubbish.

Arrggh, spambots. The junk stuff you see is not actual people joining, it's software that is able to register at sites and post spam messages. Generally the purpose of these is to boost search-engine rankings for whatever it is they are peddling.

There are technical means for decreasing these, but they need to be implemented, and the wretched spambot programmers get increasingly sophisticated in devising ever more subtle means of successfully registering and passing initial limitations many sites have set on posting links, images, videoclips etc, usually by achieving several posts sufficiently non-specific, generic, and bland in nature that members and staff miss them unless they are very clued-in as to what to look for - for example new members going on enthusiastically about "what a great forum this is, I'm really pleased I joined it" without anything at all in the message making any mention whatsoever of art or drawing (in other words, something equally applicable to any sort of forum you care to think of).

AAArrrrgghhh! I just got home from the hospital where I had a breast biopsy. I arrived at 7 a.m., (scheduled for the procedure at 9:30 a.m.) They had to do ultra sound to localize the area (insert needle, then place a wire) but they couldn't find the lesion on ultra sound. I'm thinking, hooray! it went away! No such luck! I had to have more mammograms and they did the needle and wire placement with the mammo guidance. Next step was supposed to be to the O.R. to have the biopsy done. The surgeon had an emergency so I didn't go to the O.R. until 3 p.m. and finally at 7:15 p.m. I arrived back home. What a long day! Now I have to wait for the pathology results. Everyone was very apologetic about the delay, but what can you do? Emergencies happen. I will keep you posted when I get the results.

Yes Trish we are hoping thats the end of it for you and everything looks good. Fingers crossed here for you..

Trish that was a terrible day! Hope you ar well over it. The news shouldn't be too long fingers crossed.

When I was working in theatres we used to always get the wire inserted under mammogram guidance - fewer problems that way. But the worst was the ladies who were from another hospital, they did mammograms but not the surgery, so they were sent (with the wire taped in place in a hospital gown and robe) over to our theatres, some in a taxi! I always thought that was bizarre! SO glad when they got their own visiting breast surgeon and the poor ladies didn't have to be ferried all over with the pssibility of dislodging the wire.

I will count myself lucky, I didn't have to leave the building, I just had to lay on a hard gurney and I was starving, hadn't had anything to eat since midnight.

Trish,

I think the doctor's have a lot to answer for............they mostly just look at the practicalities and forget that there ia a patient at the end of their plans. If you watched that movie "The Doctor" it says it all really. I mean the doctors should have realised that transporting patients, like I said, would easily muck up their work. And at the hospital where I worked most we had comfy chairs that people could sit in, all ready for theatre, and just get on the trolley maybe a half hour prior, so that all the last minute checks could be done. Perhaps you could suggest that to your Doctor or if the hospital does follow up satisfaction calls (like mine used to - done by the nurses) you could make the suggestion and say how long you were on the trolley wondering if you might get a bed sore! That'll make them think he he he.

Fingers still crossed - hard to type tongue.gif - good luck.

I don't have a topic to moan about - more like a rant - has nothing to do with drawing so I'm over here.

Got my new issue of a "popular photography" magazine the other day and saw they were featuring the winners of the latest photo contest. I love a contest so I flipped on over to check out the winners. The winner in the action/sports category showed a motorcyclist who appeared to be escaping from three tornadoes! Wow! What a picture! Then I started reading....

The "photo" was a composite of four other photos, one of the California desert, one of a sky or something - the cyclist was photographed in the studio pretending to ride the motorcycle (gee!) and the tornadoes were actually clouds manipulated on PhotoShop.

Is this photography?? Are we so frightened of getting out in the real world to look for real photos that we lock ourselves in a studio and tinker with a machine? Or maybe there's just no more photos out there?

I think if the contest were about "computer image manipulation" I would agree with the prize awarded. I don't PhotoShop my work, preferring my photos "naked" (Steve, you can't resist this one!). I'm even hesitant to crop any work I do. My husband is more into it, will use color correction, etc., but my feeling is that photography consists of photographer + camera + subject and either you have the shot or you don't.

[Deep breath - calm yourself down] Ok - everyone - am I out of touch?

Thanks for listening to my rant. I feel better now. wacko.gif
