You guys have art supply stores??? Wow! Our stores here sell beer, cigarettes, tractor parts, and ammo - not necessarily in that order.

I guess it goes without saying - I do all my shopping on the internet. dry.gif
oliverandjazz
lmao....you are soo funny sandy..good lord, a couple of brews and you and steve would have the room rolling with laughter..

I took my hubby to louisiana once and he couldnt believe that the signs advertised, beer, guns and ammo.. he got quite a kick out of that, but i think what really blew him away, was the drive through booze factories..
booze factories, (drive thru daquiri factories) love em, get a huge jungle juice to go..only need one too, keep ya tipsy all day..the daquiri factories are as numerous as macdonalds, oh and the speed limit is 75..gotta love em, load em up with booze and let em hit the streets..

What do they have for art supply stores in london? There must be TONS of em!

Art stores seem to have a higher than average propensity to go to the wall here in London. We used to have three very good local ones in Muswell Hill, Highgate, and Finsbury Park, which have all shut, alas.

London-wide, there are quite a few good shops. There are several branches of Cass Art (very good prices on a lot of stuff, competitive with online discounted prices), including one very close to Leicester Square tube station and the National and National Portrait Galleries. There's Atlantis Art which is a great big warehouse of a place near the Whitechapel Gallery; and there are Cornelissens (near the British Museum) and AP Fitzpatrick (also near the Whitechapel) which are both great for more unusual materials (all sorts of weird and wonderful oil-painting mediums, dry pigments so you can make your own paint, and so on). Lots of others, too, but those are the ones I mainly buy from.

I also buy stuff online though, as its often cheaper.

My older son got dog bite today at morning. He was on the visit and host's big berhardin bited him to face, righ below left eye and ear. Everybody were at shock. I wasn't were or else I would've passed out. Doctor sticked up his wounds with surgical band-aid. Son claims that wounds don't hurt, but they seem swollen and turn to dark-blue. He is upset, because scars will stay and he was going to become a model. I hope it won't preclude to accomplish his dream.

what a very handsome boy, thankfully he is ok, and i think with makeup today no one would even notice, surely some models have some childhood scars they must cover

Swollen and blue just means bruising. This will disappear in a few days. Your son is young. His power of regeneration will be much greater than somebody my age. I wouldn't worry too much at this stage. Even with some skin blemishes, he could still become a model. Even the most glamorous of models undergo the 'Photoshop' treatment. Take a look at this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5iwaQ2zi63c
kim1963
My daughter the older one was a model when she was 4 and she did it for a few years ...she made some good money but she ended up getting teased and got out of it due to that . But the agency we went through they for a time was looking for guys for a Guess clothing line and they wanted him to have a scar not a big one but I remember the women telling me that it was not going to be hard because so many of the older models have scars .
I would not let Kayela model for them due to the risky clothing for girls her age . but they were big back then .
I am sure he will do fine .. just remember this if YOU have to pay to have him model then its not something that will likely work out for his best interest . my daughter got paid and they told me never should I have to pay ..its a look they want ..they even did not recommend the schooling they said most kids or adults that go through the classes and high paid schools are in no way a better position to get the job ..its the agent that does all the work ...the model poses and gets paid .
oliverandjazz
Steve, I am assuming you are much better now, and all done with your superbiotics.. wink.gif
Songsparrow
Not quite, but yes. Feeling better thanks. Still can't open my mouth properly so some underlying problem there maybe.
sipsik
Glad you feel better Steve!

My son got worse at night. He's in pain and got fever. At morning he couldn't open his left eye. Doctor gave him antibiotics today. If he won't get better in few days, they will open the wound, clean it up and put stitches on.
kim1963
that sounds so painful .
oliverandjazz
i had no idea what a battery hen was..i had to look it up..we had tons of these things when i was growing up, we just called them chickens..lol

lol. A battery is what they are kept in! Huge sheds filled from floor to ceiling with cages where the hens have nowhere to move. They can't flap their wings, they stand on wire floors. And after a year - 18 months, they are destroyed for dog food. You should insist on buying free range eggs and products (Mayonaise and quiche etc).

oliverandjazz
OH...that is what you meant! lmao.. Steve, i have to tell you, they just busted an egg farm here in maine, i was appalled and disgusted by what they showed on the news, these chickens kept as you said, and many so sick, and they were kicking them, and throwing injured ones in the trash, STILL ALIVE..it was pathetic and sickened me to my core, the name of the egg farm was Decostas egg farm, and that farm just a few years ago was busted for well, basically slave labor, for lack of a better word, illegals, given places to sleep in this nasty environment and paid very low wages..just awful..

anyway, since i seen that report, I try to do exactly that, and i can in the summer take it one step further and get them from the lady down the street..she sells eggs occasionally, but only in summertime.
kim1963
I looked up the video from mercy for animals and it was so sad .. makews me not want to eat chicken or eggs ...how can you tell what kind of farm your eggs and chicken come from . ?

Also makes me angery to see that people can do that and sleep at night .
IslanderNL
People don't know their food is raised that way, that's how they get away with it. The public demand cheaper food and don't know or care how they get it or what conditions the animals are raised in. I'll bet that everyone who buys eggs from a supermarket has no idea that they more than likely come from a battery farm where birds are treated like machines, and discarded when unable to lay productively.

Its is one of the reasons we raise our own animals.

Here in the UK, food has to be specifically labeled to indicate what ingredients are in the product. So for instance.

This is a list of ingredients for Mayonnaise.

Water, Modified Maize Starch, Spirit Vinegar, Pasteurised Egg & Egg Yolk (3.7%), Sugar, Salt, Vegetable Oil, Glucose Syrup, Citrus Fibres, Flavourings (Contain Lactose), Stabiliser (Xanthan Gum), Colours (Titanium Dioxide, Beta Carotene), Preservative (Potassium Sorbate), Lemon Juice Concentrate, Antioxidant (Calcium Disodium EDTA).

Because this does not say 'Free Range Eggs', the eggs used would be from caged hens.

This is another Mayonnaise from an ethical trader.

Sunflower oil 76%, pasteurised free range egg yolk 10%, cider vinegar (apple juice, cider, water), lemon juice, extra virgin olive oil, sea salt, dijon mustard (mustard seeds, vinegar, water, sea salt).
oliverandjazz
they label the cartons now here too..many of us wanted to make sure our supermarket were not getting our eggs from this farm or others like it
ncgirl
It is truly horrifying some of the things that happen to farm animals in the name of cheap food. Unfortunately, here in the US, farm animals are not protected by any laws that apply to domestic animals. The HSUS and ASPCA have been campaigning strongly to get laws passed to also protect livestock from abuse - so far no luck. I don't want to get political on this forum, but do go on their website and contact your elected representatives to support these measures.

Kim - I agree - I don't know how people who hurt animals sleep at night.

We don't have the space to raise our own food, but try our best to purchase humanely produced food and to buy locally. It's more expensive, but if the demand increases - the food producers will quickly adapt to the wishes of the public.
oliverandjazz
ya know, i seldom, seldom eat meat because of these issues..Once in a while i simply cant help myself and i have to have that steak or burger, ( I cook it all the time for hubby)but for the most part, i eat side dishes and veggies..I cant really call myself a vegetarian, but my meat intake is minimal.
I remember when i was a kid, grandma would have the ground meat on the counter preparing what ever and i would run in there and grab a handful and eat it raw..loved it..i wouldnt dare to do that today..what happened?
oliverandjazz
and speaking of all this food, i have a situation..My hubby is pushing 300lbs, he carries it well, a bit of a belly, as he is 6'2
so I have been trying to get his weight down in all sorts of sneaky ways, some of them he simply will not accept..anyway, i was a comfortable 150 at 5'7-8 or so..but now i have whizzled down to 133 lbs, and he has gained 2 pounds!! I just dont know what to do..I want my weight back where it was, but if i buy things to eat for me to gain weight, he ends up eating too so i am shoveling against the tide here.. huh.gif huh.gif

Wait.. huh.gif shaking head.. rereading.. what??? A woman, looses weight and wants to gain it back.... Did I just pass into some strange alternate universe without knowing it???

Oh, and as far as your husband goes.. there is NOTHING you can do to make him take control of his weight. I have been trying to do this with my wife for 17 years and it is not possible. There is a direct connection between the amount of food consumed and the amount of activity performed.. no magic bullet or pill.. simple as pie.. pun intended.. put in more than you burn, get bigger.. burn more than you put in.. get smaller.. I guess I could write a book and call it the secret to amazing weight loss.. but I would bet Dogbert already wrote that one! biggrin.gif

I was going to make eggs yesterday for everyone .. and it make me sick .. I love chicken and now I have different thoughts .. I already do not eat much beef at all .. how do you tell if they are caged free ?

Jeanette I would love to have my own chickens for the eggs only ...but where i live chickens will not work well ..I wish to find someone who sells their eggs .

Weight loss is a matter of eating half or close to half of what you have been eating .. let him have his ice cream or whatever he enjoys ...but only half the portion ..it keeps you from wishing you had the ice cream to getting it and being happy you got it . you will loose weight this way ..and when the weight begins to come off it will make getting up and walking easier because you will want to loose even more ...its getting the cycle going that is the hardest part.

kim, it should say on the pkg something to the effect of free range, you can also talk to the ppl at the counter and inquire about it, some places may not even carry it..I run into that here, but i think it will become more popular as more ppl become aware of the handling of the animals..to me that animal should still be treated humanely as possible until placed on the table. but now adays the geniuses are talking about taxing cow flatulence!! for heavens sake, yes it is true, so I dont know where the industry is headed, but some def. changes are on the way.

I'm ovo-lacto vegetarian. I eat eggs and milk-products, but don't eat any kind of meat, included fish. Eggs I buy from farm not far from my home for years. And not only because they treat chickens better, the eggs taste better too.

Sometimes I need to buy meat for my kids. I buy it from same farm.

the dogs got skunked again yesterday, so this time instead of relying on the old household remedies, which do work but can be costly and a real pain in the butt as it requires more than one washing..sooooo since this is going to be my recurring theme this year (worst year i have had with skunks) I broke down and purchased the shampoo and spray from my vets, which ran roughly 20 bucks a bottle, but it does work, the only thing is I find this THIOTROL to be almost equally as stinky as the skunk huh.gif rolleyes.gif
I had my kittens spayed and neutered tuesday so thankfully I can now sleep at night without wondering and worrying what those two are up to wink.gif
the male is already a little more rambunctious than he should be and the female is starting to come around a little bit more. slowly but surely.
they weigh 5 lbs each at 5 mos and are quite adorable. happy.gif

Hi Kay,
I just caught up with this thread and after reading it I wondered, Kay have they ever investigated Lupus for you? Or have you heard of vitiligo? Just some others for you to look into.
Regards,
Trish
oliverandjazz
no...they have not, and i shall go look at those two things my self now trish, as I am having a terrible time at the moment with it. thanks for the thought trish. i will go look and let you know what i think
oliverandjazz
Vitiglio is out, but lupus is worth looking into..I will post a pic of my arm if it wont bother anyone..
oliverandjazz
omg..i am almost certain it is lupus trish, that is the first time i ever came close to what it may be, thank you so much..I shall find another doctor as my last i had the police called on me over this..and TELL them i want to be tested for it..
i am sick with emotion now, happy that i may know what it is and sad at what it is..and angry too, cause this has been going on for about 8 years and i am becoming very scarred..and not one doctor took any sample, blood test or anything, in fact the last one was dismissing me for the third time, telling me to put neosporin on it..like after 8 years i havent tried that already..
