Welcome to this weeks challenge!
I am Nancy B. and I have tried to provide you a broad variety of pictures. I'm one of the lurkers that decided to give hosting a shot. This week's pictures were taken by myself and my daughter Amanda around Fayetteville, NC and our daily routines.
Please enter with pencil, charcoal, pen, or colour pencil.
Make them as simple or detailed as you would like.
Hope you all find something you enjoy drawing and hopefully this will inspire other lurkers to join in on the fun of the challenges!
Nancy B
I'm not quite sure how to do so. Any help would be appreciated.

No trouble at all. If you ever need this kind of help just tell me. I use Paint Shop Pro to resize and enhance photos. It took me a while to learn but I can even make gifs now. biggrin.gif
Mecharver
Great challenge pictures. I hope I will have time to try it.

I went over the roses with the white pencil. It didn't lighten the colors and in places it even darkened the colors a little. But it did soften the texture and make it more like the texture of a rose instead of paper. biggrin.gif

I didnt like the background, so I cropped it closer than the original picture.

Great drawing. They are realy beautiful.

Here is my contribution for this challenge.
The Parrot was fun to draw.
It's funny, a few weeks ago, I was looking on the net for a parrot picture to draw and
this week, Voila. Parrot picture as a challenge. I had to do this one.
I hope you like it.

Wow....that is a beauty Mecharver....I really like this one.

Great challenge Nancy....I have been busy.... and had hoped to try one.
Mecharver
Thanks Brian D
Glad you like it.
Nancy B
Thanks for the macaw Mecharver great job.... Now for the rest of the story...Last Friday I put J-Bird on my enclosed porch on his perch hoping to get a better picture of him to post, I wanted a full view of him with his wings opened up. Anyways I forgot to shut one window before I moved him and then I tripped on a chair causing a lot of commotion spooking him and out the window he flew...We were heartbroken as he has been with us 12 years...We had one report that an owl had attacked him late that night and then nothing until Monday...then we got a call that he was heard back in some woods. It took us 3 hours and finally my son was able to climb his tree and lure him down to him with a banana for a bribe. He is now back safe at home, I am not sure who is the happiest him or us, he lost quite a bit of weight but otherwise was unharmed.
Venus
biggrin.gif Ok after gettin 2, 100% on two of my study units for my online class and then turning around and getting a 70% and a 75% on the two I did after, I decided it was time for a break off of studying..LOL. Plus since it has been awhile since I have actually sat down and drawn anything I decided it was time for a challenge. I, too, like Bob did the roses. I used my "artistic rights" and added a few more buds and butterfly and left out alot of the foilage. Too, GREEN!! So, I am quite please with the way that the picture turned out. It is done in colored pencils on 9 by 12 canson sketch paper (not recommended too much for any colored pencil work). tongue.gif

Kim
Thank you very much.

Nancy B
Venus I was counting on you to do the roses I am glad to see you made them your own, thats whats it all about, nice job. You guys are makin me want to do some color. I do love the big bird but if anyone is thinking about getting one I say think it over again, they are different then most pets and are a lot of work, you can't ignore them like a dog or cat.
paulette4
tongue.gif tongue.gif I have to laugh because at this moment I have a puppy tied to my wrist so I can have a couple minutes peace. tongue.gif

Of course you are right though, I also have an adult dog and cat, that are off sleeping somewhere.

Hi,
I wanted to try something new. So I chose to draw one of the roses on black paper with a white colouring pencil.
Only the pencil was the cheapest kind of children's pencils and the paper was way to smooth.
It was really hard to get any values in white... wacko.gif

But I had fun anyway
Here's the result:

Wow, Marijke, I love it. Lovely detail. It almost looks translucent.
It gives the real impression that roses are fragile and short lived.
Good job! wub.gif
Nancy B
Marijke, I have to agree with everything Andrea said, you captured the beauty of the roses. I may have to go get me some cheap childrens pencils.....Lovely thanks

Your rose is lovely! It is a wonderful representation of 3D using only neutrals.

Ha! biggrin.gif I just noticed after reading your post that this was first posted in May of 2007! I wasn't a member back then so I didn't recognize any of the pictures. I'm glad they popped up again, though - I really like some of the pics.

At first I thought, "that was silly - I should read things better" but then, you know, I really do like your pictures and wanted to draw them so I may even do some of the other ones. I did actually do 2 of the more recent challenges for the week anyway.
paulette4
Everyone is welcome to go back to challenge pictures at any time. It is nice if you are looking for some motivation. Just post in that thread, with a note that it is an old challenge.
