Welcome to this weeks challenge I am Kim and I will be your host ...I hope the images that I have provided will be of some challenge .

All levels of drawing are encouraged to participate!

The goal of this thread is to enable and encourage individuals to practice their drawing skills, learn new techniques and have fun! If you just want to sketch that’s fine. If you want to create a complex, detailed drawing, that’s great too. You will get out of this what you want. The references used are from my own personal reference library of images that I have photographed and I release them here as not under copyright, meaning you can use them as you wish for drawing.

You will be challenged by some aspect of all references most likely as you all will have different strengths and weaknesses in your ability to translate the images to paper.

Reminder:

This is a DRAWING challenge. Therefore please confine your artistic endeavours to some form of drawing: graphite, coloured pencil, pen and ink or charcoal.

If you would like assistance or advice, please ask for it and I will be more than willing to try to guide you.

I have offered a few reference images to choose from. The images are also provided in greyscale. Seeing the images in black and white gives a better sense of basic values.

The images were taken by my husband smile.gif

I agree with Kay. Just brilliant! I started the fly as a pencil sketch, but I couldn't resist putting some colour on there!. I need to build up a few layers to get some depth, but I don't think it'll come out as good as yours! Well done Carol. smile.gif

Tell him Thank you for me.. Those sort of captures with a camera are not easy to get.. Patience must have been taxed to say the least.. I loved the colors he brought into it as well..
Here's the Pin..
Now this one was not easy.. or else I tried to make it harder than it should have been..

I drew a rough sketch of the pin .. then rather than see it as a pin I just added the colors I saw..
katdyd

Thanks Kat .. it's beginning to grow on me now that I have got away from that pin for a while.. Guess my eyes were going Jake trying to see the mix of color ..
I hate flies too!! .. Pesky little critters .. but this one had STYLE..Kim's hubby did a great job with that photo ! He needs to enter it in a photo contest.. It would win flyswatters down..
kim1963
Thank you carol ..he has a nikon and loves his camera ...its the size of the palm of my hand and he carries it everywhere in a case on his belt.

Hun the pin is amazing !!! I cant hardlyt believe how beautifuly you captured it right on . wow
Songsparrow
smile.gif Started as a pencil sketch, but just couldn't resist applying some colour! Not as vivid as Carols attempt, but I'm pretty pleased! Lovely photo Kim.

Your Fly is very good Steve .. Why wouldn't it be .. It's your style I see.. I know I started out with mine in Inktense pencils and it just did nothing for me .. So the comfortable watercolors were applied over them.. Maybe that's why it came out so dark..
Hope you are feeling better today and you and Penny will have a great outing ..

Hard to believe something that small can produce such fine detailed photo's ..

Carol, your fly and the pin are amazing. I would love to be able to do the pin, but am not sure how I would start. Instead of that, I just drew the boy on cartridge paper 8 x 11" with various graphites.

Yes. It is pretty spooky! Also, if you look toward the back of the wing, you can clearly see what appears to be Elvis shaking hands with Mervyn Peake, author of the Gormanghast trilogy. smile.gif

Just kidding!

Steve just exactly what "kind" of meds are you taking? I really don't need mine for depression after reading these forums.

I knew you could get this down .. Velvety paper? Did the Hyrdus soak in ? .. I am surprised you found time with all that perspective going on .. I gave up on it .. Drawing buildings and of course Flowers are not something that excites my Challenge buttons.. You however .. Have them perfect.. Especially Flowers !!

great job sipsik!

Itried to draw the pin, but found it rather difficult. I used graphite, then inktense pencils on cartridge paper, about 7"square.
oliverandjazz
very very pretty norma
kim1963
Norma .. I think it is rather good myself see that is the key to placing pictures with such a intense challenege you may have never tried to do so much reflection and really look at it you should be proud of yourself because it is a difficult choice and you did well .
sipsik
Decided to finish my drawing properly, but I'm not sure does it look better now.
