I just wanted to say cheers, any more praise like this and you'll give me a complex.
Thank you anyway.
Part of this whole painting/drawing thing is to please others as well as yourself, I try hard to do that. You are all fantastic artists too, so i consider myself in good company.
Being on this site has given me an opportunity to show off and you have all responded fantastically.
I know i have said it before but it really is good to get your work praised, it gives you a reason to continue, lets face it, we all need that boost.
So i pay this hommage to you all, and long may it continue, this is a verbal group hug!!
I have put this message here also, for all newbies and non posters, to share with them what they are missing.
Go on, post, you know you want to!

I don't get to post often, but your art is certainly worthy of praise. Even if I happen to miss saying so with any of your paintings posted, I think you're an awesome talent.

RJS,
You should know that that is the way of artist. We like the complexes of praise thats why we keep drawing.<wink> So keep up the good work.

I like a good bit of critisisum [sp] how will you learn without it .. as long as the person explains why they feel the way they do about it so you can improve it .. if they just say 'oh thats sh**' then nothing else then im like

well your opinion dosnt count in my book ..

good enough for who hun .. brenda once said and im sure it was her that said it some where in here .. when you think your good enough its time to put down yor pencil and start a new hobby .. or words to that effect .. in art there is no 'good enoughs' only satisfactions to what you have achieved .. its not going to be every ones 'cup of tea' so what if it isnt .. the main thing is that you created it and no one else did be proud of that fact .. we all create art differently we all have our own styles it would be so boring if we all created the same thing .. and had the same style in doing so .. art would become so pointless then .. your work is unique to you and you only dont ever let that change

We all doubt ourselves, that's why it's so good to get praised, and the beauty of this site is, it's relatively annonymous.
I agree that some people will lie, but if they lie to give you confidence, i can live with that.
Yes Eric....GROUP HUG, even you!!! lol
I think Woo said in a previous thread, you can feel the love in the room.

I would much rather someone tell me the truth about my work & I refuse to outright lie about someone else's work. However, when you know it's a newbie starting out, I always take that into account. Also, I would never deliberately be unkind to someone and would try for my words to be as gentle as possible while still offering help.
The hard part is judging your own work and fresh eyes are always welcome to me.

I think, being told the truth by an accomplished artist, say Brenda, can be constructive as they are aware of, and can point out the faults. But, and this is a big but, there is no such thing as bad art.
I read an article in the Independant on sunday, where the journalist was bemoaning Constable for his overuse of oils, hanging at the Tate Modern (London), then went on to rave about five blocks of concrete arranged by a german artist.
My old dad would say "there's no counting for taste!". Art like beauty is in the eye of the beholder, we all have differing tastes and differing standards. Because i don't like a submarine made from old car tyers, does that make it bad?
Whilst i agree that honesty is the best policy, account has to be taken of the artist. As has been said, a little sesitivity goes a long way, and can mean the difference between giving up and keeping at it.
I am my own worst critic, for example i though my watercolour 'sleepless' looked like a snowdrift when i posted it, yet others did not. The world is full of people who are prepared to knock you down, thankfully this site is not one.
And so fellow artists.....
Does sound a bit like a speech don't it?
Just rambling on, i'll be ok when i've had my cup of tea, thanx for reading.

Yes i agree with you when you say that there are alot of people out there that will Knock ya down
some people out there can be Out right Nasty!! i have seen on a another art forms
someone who is a Beigger post there work out and another Beggeier artists Critque the work say its basicly
A pice of pooh the guy that did the drwaing was hurt by it bless him
the thing is we are not here to prove our selfs to others as in life i mean
i said in a art mag what a artist said was this If youre going to be a representative artist then you may as well be a Photographer!! its so true!!
The best thing is a Kind experienced artists that can Critque others artwork
and love it when artists have there own Style thank you for your words Woo(((( heres a Soft hug)))
we are not perfect and our work will not be perfect as its step by step we cant go higher then what level we are at its step by step and a Jorney to become a great artist
woo
Aug 22 2006, 10:10 AM
there is a great artist in all of us .. its just peeling back the layers to get to it
Eric
Aug 22 2006, 09:32 PM
That is so true. This site is not set up for that competitive art world. It is mainly geared toward the beginner artist therefore any words of encouragement are met with a lust to continue to practice and improve. Other sites can be rough, and these I see as having members that have put their work into public galleries for show, and are striving to become that next Andy Warhol. So, naturally they will compare their work to that level and if you are beginner, you have no real chance of survival there.
Me, I am just trying to find my inner self. I have a few projects in my mind that I want to get down on paper. If it takes me a week or four years to do it, I don't care. This is not my life's blood and I do it more out of relaxation and stress relief than out of competition. That's why I am so humbled when people say that they can't reach my level when they come to this site and look at my Gallery. I don't think I'm really that good yet, and I'm not afraid to tell someone just to boost their attempts at trying it.
OK, I'll step down for the next one to stand here.
Love you all,
Eric

hehe .. i often find that sometimes a quickie sketch can turn out better than some that you have taken time over .. you dont have time to think about too much detail it just comes to you
