Hello everyone, both those who know me and those who don't.

I've been absent for awhile due to lots and lots of work, travel, art, forums and art association work. I'm working on a major piece right now that will take several months to finish. Its stretched me as an artist and has helped me grow enormously too.

However, I know that I did promise to do some classes on different subjects so I'm here to find out if the interest is still there. Venus put up a poll and there were a number of topics which came in under the leader of figure drawing. They were drawing animals and, I believe, using coloured pencils.

I am happy to do a month long interactive class on either subject, so based on demand over the next week, I'll start up something that people can participate in. As with previous classes, all levels are welcome to join in.

And, as a taster, here a little drawing involving both an animal and coloured pencils. smile.gif

Hi Jeanette,

Welcome back! I'd love to learn colored pencil technique with you.

Thanks, by the way, for some criticism you gave me back around the time you last came by; it helped me grow a lot in the time since. Your contributions around here are valuable.

Hey Jeanette,
I look forward to seeing what you do. I don't have coloured pencils, but I do have some conte pencils.

Thanks so much for the warm welcome and the enthusiasm for a coloured pencil class.

I will set up something over the next few days and post it for everyone. There will be a little bit of homework to do before the class begins, so I'd anticipate it starting probably next Sunday or Monday.

Christi, wonderful that you'll join in.

Uta, I hope the class will help you.

Cyn, sweetie, great to see you again. A class wouldn't be the same without you in it.

Ernest, lovely that you'll take part in a class. I'm glad that I could provide a little assistance in a critique. Thank you.

Paulette, I do hope you join in as well. Conte is good, but a set of coloured pencils would really be needed for this class.

Brian, hey how are you? I've missed you too. Fabulous that you'll have a go at this class. I think you'll enjoy it.

Andrea, go sharpen those coloured pencils! smile.gif
IRBaboon
Oh, please miss can I join the coloured pencil class too? He He!
I haven't tried them before but have some prismacolours being delivered this week. Can you tell us what materials we will need; types of paper etc?

Thanks,
Andrea (another one!)
IslanderNL
Oh you sure can Andrea (IRB). smile.gif The more the merrier.

And yes, I will put up a materials list and what you'll need to do to prepare for this class within the next few days. Then on Sunday or Monday we'll start in.
Venus
biggrin.gif YAY!!!! Welcome back Misses Jeanette. You were sorely missed glad to see you back. Looks like a good class and I will also participate but not able to do much until I get home. Kinda a little stuck in Traverse City, Michigan due to car problems. So they have slow internet and until I get home can't do much. Hopefully by tonight, latest tomorrow...See you all then!!! wub.gif

Welcome back Jeanette. [attachmentid=5974] From what i have seen of your work takein' one of your classes would be a great opportunity. How large of a set of cp is needed.[attachmentid=5975]

I want to take the time here to welcome all the new people who have joined us ...I love to see new names smile.gif
IslanderNL
Hello again everyone. Its great to see so many joining in!

I will start a write up tonight of the class and hopefully have it posted by tomorrow night or Friday. As there will be a little homework to do before the class itself starts, I'll say that we will officially start next Friday - July 13th - yes I know, I know...smile.gif This iwill NOT be a 'how to draw' class. You will be expected to have your master drawing completed and ready for transfer by the start date. I will provide guidance on tweaking your drawing if it is off, but will be concentrating on colour pencil technique.

While I write the information for the class, I'd like those taking part to chose their own reference that they will draw. Keep in mind that it should be a fairly simple shape, so that you can concentrate on developing technique and colour. If its a person or animal, choose just a head, not the full figure, again for the previous reasons.

A minimum set of 24 colours is recommended for your coloured pencils. You can buy additional colours individually as required to add to your set. Prismacolor or Polychromos are popular brands

The paper that I recommend is a good quality paper and something with a bit of tooth, either Stonehenge or Strathmore will work well and hold a number of layers of coloured pencil. Use a white paper for this project and aim for a 9 x 12 size as it will fit most scanners and is not too unmanageable or go on forever and frustrate you.

So start thinking about your subject material and I'll have the information up soon. If you have any questions, please ask.

Oh! no, homework, feel like I'm back at school, still excited though. rolleyes.gif

hi jeanette-- welcome back as you can see you've been missed! i would like to try to take part in this lesson as well. i have strayed from color pencils again. i dont know how much time i will have--i am going to try to pick a reference today so i can post by morning. have the weekend off so hopefully i can get something done this weekend. thanks for this class.
Lori
IslanderNL
No stress involved in this homework Andrea - at least there shouldn't be! smile.gif

Never too late Wintermind. Pick a reference and come on over.

Hi Lori, great to see you again! It would be wonderful if you could join in. No rush. The time for the class is a month, but posts will be responded too well after that.

I should have the information up tomorrow. Please bear with me as work is a bit frantic right now and so is home. But I'll get it done for you. Meanwhile dig out those references...
Venus
biggrin.gif Jeanette, looks to be a great class!! I can't wait to get home to my materials..Its early Friday morning like 1:30am and our car still isn't fixed as of yesterday..lets keep our fingers crossed for today though, I MISS the other half of my family and my art section at home. Is there any certain area that our references should be directed towards? Like animal, landscape, ect? I know I have tons...hehehe. Glad to see you back again and do hope you stay!! wub.gif

Hi Jeanette, haven't worked in CP's before (only inktense & WC pencils) wouldn't mind trying. Looked at an older lesson though & it looked like the lessons aren't posted on the forum but emailed or PM'd or something - how does it work on this site. I like what I've seen so far, and looks like I can learn heaps from Brena's lessons.

Sue
wintermind
Great. biggrin.gif Thanks for doing this. smile.gif
IslanderNL
I hope you get home soon Venus, its frustrating waiting for something to be fixed. No preference for a reference, just choose something fairly simple to start with that's clear, good lighting if possible. The subject choice is yours.

I'll try to stick around as long as I can Venus. Everything is just soooooo busy lately, its a bit crazy. smile.gif

Sue, I'll post the lesson on the site directly, no emailing it to people for this one. I believe the Figure Drawing lesson was being emailed to avoid any possible privacy/content issues from those no involved directly perhaps.

Anything else that I've done has been put directly on the forum for people to access.

Hi, Jeanette
I am new to this site and forum, but have been active in Wet Canvas since January in the drawing and sketching forum (as joane). Someone there suggested this site and I saw your query about the CP lessons. I am very interested in trying CP--not having much success on my own so far.
IslanderNL
Palm lady, by all means join in. I've posted Part I at the top forum, so have a look and I'll have Part II posted over the next day or so. I'll look forward to having you participate. smile.gif
