Can someone tell me the name of the drawing technique that teaches you to see and draw basic shapes within your subject; cone, sphere, cylinder, etc.

I know the old masters did it, but there is a modern drawing system known for this approach and I have forgotten its name.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.

Brenda's lessons are based on this, especially the beginner and intermediate. I loved doing Emma Emu.

I don't know that there is a specific name for the technique of blocking in shapes first, but nearly all artists do use it to get the basics of an image down before defining it further.

Are you looking for a name of the technique or just how to do it?
DuckDown
what you're looking for is the glenn vilppu drawing manual book.He also does dvds which are quality but very expensive. These teach you the basics of the old masters.

Thanks for that post Duckdown. I checked out his book and website. I think I might try out a few of his videos ands ee how they are. It seems like he is well established as an exceleent teacher of animating figures. That is primarily what I am looking for too is learning how to draw figures.
