You can choose Adobe Photoshop ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adobe_Photoshop ) I use photoshop for Digital Painting.

Or another fantastic software, ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corel_Painter )

Hope this helps.

biggrin.gif When I feel like digital painting or messing with digital programs in general I use Paintshop Pro, ArtWeaver (which is free), Corel Painter, Art Rage (also has a free version or $20 to buy full version, or Adobe Photoshop Elements 3..it came with my wacom tablet. There are many good programs out there. Each is unique, so its hard to say what is better.

Thanks guys
Im going to look into each of these although the free ones sound pretty good
Also is there an easier way to paint than a mouse?
I really know nothing about this digital stuff

smile.gif Viva, if you go to Wacom.com they have different types of drawing tablets with stylus pens for digital drawing and painting which is alot easier than using your mouse. The downfall though is none of their products are particularly cheap. You can always see and research what type of tablet you want and then look on ebay to see if you can find them cheaper there. I always search ebay for cheaper deals before going to stores and looking. wub.gif

I made a huge mistake buying a cheap tablet online. I did it with the hopes of enjoying a new media, sadly it sucked so incredibly, that I shelved it and was bummed. Last night I gave it another whack after a year and found that it needed an older windows version. I did find a homemade emulator and made it work, but again, it is horrible.

My advice is to save your money and really look hard for a good one that meets your needs. Being broke, I always fall into this problem. Either go without or chance using crud. Vivalavolcom's picture is beautiful. It is what I really hoped to achieve with my set up.

Thats my plan, I thought I would save up and buy a nice one
though..it will be awhile happy.gif

A Wacom is a must (though there are cheaper tablets available - I use a Genius MousePen 8x6 for most of my digital work and I find it just fine for now), and Adobe Photoshop wouldn't hurt either smile.gif though there are other, cheaper alternatives - try out the trial of photoshop and ArtRage, and perhaps Painter if they do one, and see which fits your style the best.

I couldn't agree with Shadow Watcher more. I also bought two cheap tablets to save cash but in the end bought two Wacoms. There are no tablets on the market that even come close to a Wacom. My advice is to spend a little more and save yourself a lot of hassle in the long run.

As for software, I don't have any experience with ArtRage, but Photoshop and Corel Painter are the top of the line products for digital painting. They are both expensive but well worth the money if you want to get serious.

Its Decided,
Corel Painter and Wacom it is happy.gif

Imagine if Wacom gave DRAWSPACE members a bulk rate discount for their beginner tablets. That would be very cool, because it may become a more realistic goal for us beginners. Does anyone here work for them? lol

biggrin.gif Viva, seriously, shop ebay. I just bought Corel Painter X (full version) for pc/mac and paid $20 and that was with shipping included. I have Painter 8 a friend gave me a copy of but I couldn't pass the deal on the upgraded newer version. As for Wacoms its seems now that I have bought mine since right before or right after Christmas last year that the prices seem to have gotten better. They are fun to play with, I just prefer doing traditional methods of art more. wub.gif

Although I have not used a tablet I have used software for composition.

I have heard a lot about the Wacom. I doubt you can get around buying one if you are dead set on doing digital art but if you want to save some clams have a look a a Opensource application that will work with the Wacom. It is called GIMP. Just do a Google on "digital painting wacom gimp". That should give you a good start and since the soft is free there is no risk in giving it a try. Like most high end graphics apps there is a high learning curve. Have patients and learn GIMP it will help you with your art digital or not.
