Full Version: Your Fears ?

I'm writing a story at the moment for my English original writing (Doing it over the holidays for a head start) and I was writing my main characters profile.

The main jist of the story is that this man is so scared and has so many fears, he has panic attacks with just about anything, and after a traumatic event, developes extreme catatonic schizophrenia, and becomes housebound with incapability and fear of going into the outside world .

So, I have the main outline ready, but I need to know...'What does he fear?'.
I started thinking I could use my own fears and put them on the list, but I figured he needs really extreme fears and most people only have a few of these...

So I wondered if y'all could spare a moment to write a few of your fears (the weirdest/funniest ones) to help me make a big list of what the man is afraid of.

Toni.

I'm afraid I can't help!

But here is a list of phobias!
ncgirl
I get panicky in crowded places, but that's a pretty common fear. My mother is deathly afraid of bridges.

Thanks for the list Steve; some quite funny ones on there laugh.gif
'Bums or beggars- Hobophobia.' I found that one quite funny.
Why? I don't know.

And Kay...I must say I share your fear of public restrooms.
If I MUST use one, toilet seat covers all the way.

oh the unseen in a public restroom on the seats and what not are one thing that is very scary..I was at a rest area on one of my bike travels..been riding for miles, tired, thought i should take a small break, pulled in, stretched, noticed a car with two guys sleeping it on my way to the restroom, and while i was in the stall, one of them came into the bathroom, yelling, pushing the door to the stall i was in, I dont know if he thought i was someone else or what, but i started to shrieking, he slammed out of there, and I think I stayed in that stall another hour, scared to death..before daring to peek out..

huh.gif Wow Kay; I can understand your phobia; I too have had a bad experience in a public restroom.
I was about to do my thing laugh.gif (you know)...
and I heard the door open. I thought nothing of it, that it was just someone else going to use another cubicle.
Anyway; I heard an old woman scream (which scared the **** outta' me) and then she started shouting "No! No! Come Back!" I was comepletely shocked, I didn't know what to do. Thought went through my mind that someone could have stolen her purse or something. Then all I see, is this little Jack Russel crawling under the cubicle gap. He was growling and baring his teeth, snarling at me like he was gonna' rip my throat out. So obviously, (With a huge phobia of dogs) I scream so loud I think the whole world heard me. I scramble off the toilet, and just as the dog squeezes through the gap I climb up onto the toilet seat! The dog's still growling like mad and walks up to the toilet. So (in a panic) I scream and start to climb up the cubicle wall until I'm holding onto the wall at the top with nothing under my feet. The old woman starts shouting "Give him back, Give him back, please!" She starts crying and starts shouting more and more; begging for her dog back. (SHE THOUGHT I WAS STEALING HER DOG!) So, at this point I'm crying, I don't know what to do, so jump over the cubicle into another , open the door and bolt outta' there! And as I run down the road, all I hear is the woman going "Awwww, was little Jackie scared?"

Little Jackie?! Was this the same dog?! So I run home and tell my mum.
Oh yeah. At the time I was 11! So pretty traumatizing.

So now I'm left with a fear of dogs, public toilets, and frantic old women. laugh.gif

Don't worry - I hear them too. But on the other hand I've been hearing "Foggy Mountain Breakdown" by Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs for about a week now.

Most people think it is funny.
But the thing is...it was petrifying.
There's nothing worse than a little dog yapping and growling at you. They have really sharp scary teeth. ohmy.gif
kim1963
I do not think any fear is stupid ...if it causes a fear reaction then its real to you . I have sooo many books on that subject ...trying to understand fears is tough .

Kaysome people fear things for no reason at all they just have a fear sometimes a fear so bad its hard to understand and get through because there is little understanding as to why the fear ...in your case you had a horrific thing happen to you in a public bathroom that even the smell or sight or thought to use one can trigger your unpleasant situation from before without you really having to think about it ...your fear is for a good reason but it alot easier to work with and get help for . I would have done the same thing and not moved from the stall ...people are crazy .

And as far as the Voices .. i thought everyone heard them lol

ive a phobia of wasps. with their black and yellow, hard, scaley bodies, their unpredictable natures, the way they chase you and buzz round your head or try and sneak in your drink *shudders*, and of course the fact they sting! not that ive ever been stung as yet, but my daughter has 5 times now and it doesnt seem very nice the way she screams about it bless her!
kim1963
I dont like bees either ...my daught at two weeks got stung on the eye brow .. I quickly took her and began to nurse and placed frozen pees on her forhead with a towel around them and called her doctor .. they said not to worry but that the nursing idea was a good one to keep the baby calm . I hate the buggers
