some can be viewed as art some are there for inspiration smile.gif
Eric
However, the inspiration art/photos should actually be posted in the Inspiration gallery and not the member gallery. Also the posting of paintings from other artists I can do without. If I want to look at art from a third party that is not a member of this website, then just a link should do. I would much rather see what the member who is actually doing the posting is doing. That's kinda why I joined this site.

Seems like a Members Art Gallery on a drawing site might ought to contain members drawings, only.

Eric

maybe we should have a section with 'arts of interest'
i know this is a site for being taught how to draw but having other pieces of art to look at some times helps to inspire us more to get creating smile.gif
Eric
Well, then the topic of Art Storage Warehouse comes into effect if we start doing that, Woo. Pictures eat up bandwidth and if we let every Tom, Dick and Harry (purely fictional characters) post galleries and galleries of pictures to the site, we would be eating up our own member space. Now maybe placing a URL link to the site may be the better choice, and I do agree that it should have its own area as well.

Oh geez, now I'm starting to sound like J-Lynn! Man, you guys rub off on me too quickly. I really like it here. Especially with me being the one always getting his hands slapped for getting in trouble.

Stay clean and fresh,
Eric

yes Eric i can see your point there .. maybe a subforum for recomended sites should be in force . we have to take into account that many people still dont know thier way round a pc and pasting links here and there some may lose track of where they are etc .. im computer literate and i still get lost unsure.gif

Am I missing something? I've only seen one photo in the art gallery, other than in the inspiration section.

You know, others have gotten on here and complained about the "wrong" kind of art being uploaded to the gallery, but this is Brenda's site, and she doesn't seem to mind. In fact, she was the first one to post both a photograph and a painting.

I've seen several galleries that appear to be nothing more than photo albums that seem to have nothing to do with the purpose of this site and that is for members to showcase their artwork. I have no problem if someone posts their artwork along with the photos that inspired them because that would still keep it consistant but it seems to me that some people are using this site for the sole purpose of posting random photos. It's also a coincidence that these same people that are posting these random photos aren't participating on this board. If they want to start a photo album, they can go to photobucket or some other photo hosting site.
As for the wrong kind of art being uploaded into the gallery, the only problem I have is when someone posts someone elses artwork in the gallery instead of their own. If you want to post a link to an artist who's work inspires you, that's cool. But if you open you're own gallery, then any artwork you post in it should be yours. Besides, posting works from someone else without their permission could get this site into a lot of hot water.

Um, I am still missing them. I just looked through the gallery and I still only saw one photo. Perhaps you could link to the ones you are talking about.

rejoneo That's the name of the album that seems to have nothing to do with the art gallery.

rsine has the one, and this is the other. The only two that I found so far.

Thank you everyone for bringing up some really great points.

arts.gif This forum is for all members to learn from and enjoy! Needless to say, with almost 15,000 current members (WOW!), I can’t possibly keep up with monitoring all the galleries or forum posts. Hence, I could really use some help keeping this forum running smoothly. help.gif

I’m very grateful to all the wonderful members who have already taken time from their busy lives to report images or posts that are inappropriate or in breach of copyright laws. You amazing people know who you are, and I can’t begin to thank you enough!!!! God bless yer cotton socks!

My suggestion for maintaining the integrity of the gallery sections is quite simple, and based on respect for copyright laws. In other words, every image in the gallery must be the property of the individual who uploads or posts it.

Consider the following:

Members’ Gallery: Each image uploaded to this gallery must be the work of the member who uploads it. Please do not post any images of artwork done by any artist other than you. This gallery is intended for drawings, paintings, sculpture, etc. Photographs should be added to the Inspirational Gallery (You don't use up your gallery space this way). smile.gif Copying images from the websites of other artists and adding them to the gallery is in violation of copyright laws. However, if you would like to share the art of another artist, please post a link to his/her site in the forum.

Inspirational: The copyright to each photo added to the Inspirational section must belong to the member uploading it. In other words, if you are the photographer of an image you would like to share with others, please upload it to this section. For example, I will only add photos that I took myself; therefore I own their copyrights.

Get Advice: This gallery is a great place to post drawings or paintings in progress. We have a wealth of highly skilled artists on this forum, who are happy to offer critiques to artists who are having problems with projects, or simply want to hear a few words of encouragement.

Thank you everyone!!! You rock!!!! cool.gif

Problem with posting anything but links in 'Arts of Interest' is that it breaks copyright and isn't supposed to be on this server. At least that's what I understood when I read the Rules For Posting.

If you don't hold the copyright or permission to post on the piece you don't post it. The poster and the site could both be held liable by copyright law.

No one wants anything happening to this beautiful site, so it makes sense just to avoid the practice of posting materials we don't hold the copyrights on. smile.gif

It doesn't break copyright laws if it is your own work. I think that's what was meant--a section to post our own photos, sculpture, or other artistic ventures.

Eric, I saw your link. It was that album rsine was talking about that I can't find. The one by rejoneo.

The name of the gallery owner is not rojeneo. That is the name of the gallery. Like "Eric's Drawings". You must be looking for a member by that name.

Ahhh, thank you Eric. I did search by album title and user name, but I missed this one. Now that I've seen it, all I have to say is,

"All this fuss over two photos!?" Very well done photos, I might add...

Because these photos have nothing to do with what the member's art gallery is all about.
When I visit the gallery, it's because I want to view other member's artwork. Not to have to sift through a bunch of photos that have nothing to do with anything. It's like if you or someone started a thread to discuss a certain drawing technique and then someone comes along and starts replying to the thread talking about sports. Taking the original purpose of that thread completely off topic.
Also, and I mentioned this before, it seems rather odd that the people who are posting these random photos in the art gallery, aren't participating on this board.

It's just two photos in one album. That hardly qualifies as "a bunch." If you don't want to look at them, don't go there. Heck, I had to be directed to them to even find them, so they shouldn't be that hard to avoid.

We already went through this whole discussion when someone complained about people posting paintings in the gallery instead of drawing. Photography is a form of art, just like drawing and painting are. I don't have any problem with people posting different kinds of art forms. Brenda said, in this very thread, "Members’ Gallery: Each image uploaded to this gallery must be the work of the member who uploads it. Please do not post any images of drawings, paintings, or photos done by any artist other than you." That says to me that photos are ok here as long as you take them yourself. If the site owner doesn't have a problem with them, why should anyone else?

Well, Brenda did say that painting was a form of drawing only instead of a pencil, you're using a brush but the concept is the same and I'm sure that's the purpose of the member's art gallery.
Besides this is called DRAWspace. Not photographyspace. If someone wants to post photos in their gallery, then maybe they should explain why it's relevant to the board and show some of their artwork the photos inspired.

Again, some excellent points have been discussed.

I agree that photography is definitely an art form, and I am always in awe of well done photos. However, my suggestion is to add photos to the Inspirational Gallery, rather than the Members' Gallery. I should have clarified my directions more clearly (sorry). blush.gif

May I suggest that if the owners of photos in the Members Gallery could move them to the Inspirational Gallery, I think this issue would be resolved?

Brenda (heading off to modify my post so as to not add more confusion to this issue)

I uploaded a photo in my gallery. It's a photo of my drawing that can't be scanned because it's not on paper or canvas but on skin. Now, should that be considered photography even though its a photo of a drawing? Or are we limited to show works done on paper or canvases only?
Eric
Any way you can get your art into your gallery is fine. The problem here is that photos of other stuff other than to display your own creations should be posted in the inspirational gallery. The two most used methods for entering your own art is usually scanning or digital photography, so this should not even be an issue.

Eric

I agree .. I dont know why this topic is at the top of discussion sense it started, frankly I didn't like where this thread was heading from the start, but seeing people keep discussing this issue i really think we should end it as its not constructive.

I dont mean to sound negative to the poster/people who dont like photographs on this sites gallery, Then just dont go there. I dont go around looking at every persons gallery just as i dont go around reading every members profile to see what they like etc.. unless they have a very attractive avatar smile.gif ... if someone wants to share their photos /art on this site they should be able to as this site is about learning/sharing art.

So can we just move one .. and start using this forum for a more constructive purpose .. like picking Brenda's brain biggrin.gif

Your wish is my command! rolleyes.gif Assuming that I can find the correct buttons, I shall close this topic!

Ahhhh...you may be very disappointed with the current contents of my brain! wacko.gif Most of my brain is already on the site as lessons! arts.gif However, you are welcome to have whatever is left over!

By the way, I'm working on a really neat pen and ink drawing this week that will eventually be added to Z-level! wink.gif
