Hello!
I need some advice on drawing learning material. I need help to find learning material for my little sister which is eight years old and her current level is at the level of the average eight year old (might be slightly above but nothing which makes any difference).
I have textbooks on learning how to draw but it is directed towards adults and is somewhat above her current level.
Can you help me? is there any websites which has anything on this subject?
At which level should she start learning?
or should she just draw like mad until she has reached a high enough level (which she might already be at) to start with the books i have? (they start with the basics so she might be able to use it at the level she is at now but i want to hear what you have to say, if there is a better way)

My kids have done Brenda's lessons at different times. They tend to look at pictures and go for it rather than sitting and reading about what to do. The results are mixed.

I have a book called Drawing with Children, a Creative Teaching and Learning Method That Works for Adults, Too, by Mona Brookes. I bought it when my kids were little. I regret to say that I never really used it, but it still looks like a good book.

There is another spot on the internet, I think it is called "Now I can draw..."Shows kids how to draw about anything. Also I found 2 really good books at Waldenbooks that show how to do drawings. I bought them myself. Each one has about 8 sections of things to draw. Cars, animals, dinasours, people you name it.

You could also try to get her enrolled in a once or twice a week class. I remember when I was about 8 I took my first art class at the community building near my house, it was either free or very very inexpensive b/c we didn't have a lot of money back then to spare.
I remember learning a lot about the fundamentals of drawing, and it was the beginning of my understanding shadows as shapes, and contours.

I can't think of anywhere better for children to learn how to draw than from Brenda's early lessons and cartoon characters. I've become a premium member so that I can print lessons out, with the intention of putting together a good drawing reference for my grandchildren (when I get some, hahaha). I would have loved someone to give me such easy to follow, but very educational drawing material when I was a child.

Greeneyes----I would have to agree. My kids enjoy Brenda's lesson so much. I mean at 11 and 4 they both kind find the right skill level for them. They can also see their progress matched up to others having done the same lessons. It gives the incouragement they need to keep their interest levels high.
