Hi All,
Welcome to Snoopy 101 Cartoon Challenge my name is Brian David and it is my pleasure to host.
Though I am no expert in this....
Max Fleisher
Many animators would consider him the grandfather of Cartoons but most of us know him as the creator and producer of Popeye and the great Betty Boop. He and brother Dave Fleisher were also inventors of what is known as the Roto-scope. This process known as roto- scoping allowed animators to manually alter film footage one frame at a time. The frames could be arbitrarily painted on and custom animated effects could be added almost making the characters and scenes come to life. I am just astonished at some of the detail in his early cartoons such as Popeye.
In 1919 he and brother Dave Fleisher set out to test their invention of the Roto-scope on their very first animated series called " Out Of The Inkwell". These films featured "Koko The Clown" and Max Fleisher as the creative Cartoonist. Naturally they were a hit and soon the two brothers found themselves in competition with the great Walt Disney.
My Challenge Simply create one of your very own Cartoon Clowns.....you may use any type of mediums you like but please no computer graphics...you may use your computer for text if you wish.
I hope you all enjoy this challenge.
Happy drawings,
Brian.

Hi ! here's my 2 cent's!
Popo isn't very smart: he wears the the eyepatch and has his bangs infront of his eye just because it's "Stylish". So don't worry both his eyes are still there.
exuse me for using "whatever kind of" paper.

(and to this day my friends tease me about being freaked out the whole time)

This is a very neat cartoon challenge .. I know alot of kids are afraid of clowns and I never understood why myself but maybe its the hiding of the face under makeup and the exagerated personalities of a clown ...well my drawing hits home because my father was a clown .. matter of fact he belonged to the Clowns of American lol no kidding ....he did it on the side and was very professional about it .. was even on T.V. and worked in Las Vegas where we use to live with the Jerry Lewis Telethon ..he did alot of his clowning for free at parties for special kids with special needs .. so I had to honor him by drawing him in his clown gear in cartoon form .....he is now passed away .. he died when I was 20 and he was only 45 ..so this is for him

I was afraid of clowns/mimes too very long ago. The only cool clowns where the balloon animal ones

. I mean a clown that can make balloon animals is never evil. this reminds me of Buggy the clown from an Anime... he's a pirate destroying a village and his nose is that big red and round for real and he goes rampage if someone says: Big red nose! Ah one of the coolest cartoon villains ever I must say.
And thank you for complimenting Popo.
Popo: I just am that awesome!
Me: how rude...
kim1963
Sep 28 2007, 04:46 AM
My father was a clown who made all those animals .. he handed out balloon apples ...he was by no means evil lol ... but I know many kids who feared him for no reason ...run crying lol

Great story and beautiful clown, Kim. And I love Popo too.

I love all the clowns..
Here is one I did tonight after my grand daughter went to sleep. It's part Prisma, part Conte and a little graphite. I didn't have enough of any one medium.

Hey guys, sorry I have been away for awile. I have had a mess on my hands with the inlaws house.
Anyway I too thought I would check in at work here, to see what was going on. And man what a suprise indeed. Two wonderful clowns. They both turned out great.
Kim---Touching story. Your tribute is supurb!!!!

TB...how have things been going???
thunderbird9395
Sep 29 2007, 07:47 PM
indi----- Oh my god. Things have been very hecktic. Rebuilding my in-laws house has turned out to be a much bigger chore than I thought. However, we are getting through it. Thank you for asking. But on a lighter note my mother-in-law has given me the order to use my artistic side. She wants me to draw then paint her laundry room in clouds with one wall being a clothes line with clothes hagging on it. I thought this would be a great challange for me. And in the spirit of the current challange here. I have decided to make the clothes on the line, clown clothes. As well as having Snoopy and Woodstock flying around looking for that dasterly Red Baron.

Any helpful ideas on this would be much appreciated.

I had to do it a bit quicker than I had planned, but I'm a bit busy today, so...
I had a lot of fun with this, though. I had done it once and it was too light and just didn't look right not outlined.
