This is one thing I cant really master.
I guess I didnt give it enough attention yet, but I'd like to have a good place to start from.
Whenever I try to draw clouds (I mean realistic clouds) they turn out to be cartoonish. I cant get the hang of their shape, its too random for me and I guess I'm having a hard time playing with the shapes to make them as random as in real life.
Whenever I do get that done well, I'm having a hard time shading them. It's either making them too dark, or too light, or irrational. Either way, they turn out pretty bad.
Any tips, tutorials or anything at all that might help?
Thankfully,

Can't help with the pencil technique but can suggest hitting google image or the like and doing some searches for high resolution photos. Find one that is like what you have in your minds eye, and draw what you see in the photo.

Hi,
I cant offer any real help drawing clouds, but i suspect the problem is a result of clouds, by their very nature being very delicate in form and shade.
Only therefore a very delicate approach might release the soft results you are looking for.
One approach might be to practice shading blocks with a range of values, a good range could be 12 or 15 different values between white and black.
Once you can deliver a range of gentle greys near to white at will, the soft greys of a cloud formation might be easier to control.
And then the excellent advice of finding a high resolution photograph and drawing what you see would be the next step.
Its a hard path to tread but I think it holds the promise of ultimate success.
Thats the approach I would use.
Kind regards
Brian
