Other that the pure joy I get from drawing (Only been doing it for 4 months now) is the following letter I got from the mother of Grace. I was asked to draw Grace (see below) and this was the result. (Note this is the mother talking as if she was her daughter, obviously her daughter did not write it):

Dear Calvin,

Thank you for the wonderful drawing of me! It's sitting in our Dinning room/Great room so friends and Family can see it. (Out of my reach unfortunately!) Mommy and Daddy say they can't believe how well you captured my smile, they love it! Thanks again for such a special gift. My mommy says you are such a blessing to those around you!

God bless,

Grace

I never ever thought that this would be a side benefit of learning to draw. Made me feel so wonderful I just had you share it with you all.

Calvin,

You have been taking leaps and bounds with this drawing you have undertaken. Its no wonder that you are beginning to touch other peoples lives already. Thanks for sharing that.

Yesterday, I went with my daughter (10 yr Britt) to the Heidelberg Castle to see what we could find to draw. We took a little bag with our drawing utensils, drawing boards, and a small snack. We found a shady bench in one part of the park with a side view of one of the castle towers. While we were sitting there drawing, tourists from all over the world were passing by us. Most of them stopping behind us to take a peek at what we were drawing. We received so many compliments about our work that we stayed there for over 5 hours.

I know what you feel when others compliment on your work, even though you think you didn't really do as good as you would have liked. My real goal though, get my daughter interested in art, was really taking off whenever people would look at her drawing board and comment on her drawing.

I am really enjoying my new found hobby, and I can see you are too. Keep up the good work.

You really are growing by leaps and bounds and I, too, know what you mean by the "high" of having your work acknowledged as having touched someone in some way.

Your drawing portrays that child's exuberance extremely well and I can see why her parents would be so proud of the drawing.

Keep it up - you're doing great!

J

A friend lost his very old dog recently to old age, so I drew him this.

That's really outstanding work Dan. I'm sure it really hit the heartstrings of your friend. What a thoughtful idea you had there. I'll have to remember that one.
