Hi everyone!

I am wanting to accomplish a drawing of Hayley Williams (the lead singer of paramore). I will start posting little bits of the drawing at a time, I would love everyones critique. I am just now wanting to get serious on portraits...again any critisism welcome!!!

Okay this is the picture I will be drawing. It will be a bit of a challenge, but I have been wanting to draw her for a long time and decided to take on the challenge!!! My biggest struggle is hair if anyone has any tips on hair, i would LOVE some!!!

I had to Google her to find out who she is, but she looks like a great subject: distinctive nose, well-delineated lips. Are you doing this in graphite or color? That wild orange hair would look great in colored pencils...

Hmmmm. Have you started yet? You might want to try to find a better photo. That one is kind of small; if you blow it up, you'll see pixels very quickly. Try images.google.com; I found this one right away, but I'm sure you can find others...

Paramore is just starting to get popular, so I am not surprised you didn't know her(that and paramores style of music is an aquired taste!) I agree she has nice features. I am not so sure what I will do....it would look really great in colored pencils because of her wild colored hair...but I am not sure If i will....I will probably just wait and see!!!

And this is the only good lighted photo i could find directly of her face!!! I have googled and asked but i am kinda having a little trouble finding one....thanks for searching!!!

ID----Can't wait to see the start of your drawing.
independentdrawer
okay everyone.....the outline is.........DONE!!!! I will scan it as soon as i get home!!! I am very tempted to keep going but I want to scan it and get critiques, before i keep going! I know if I start off with a bad outline the whole drawing will turn out wrong!!!
independentdrawer
Ok this has been a tough week!!! I havn't slept for two days.....I did my first outline way better but someone used it as a scrap page...I was so MAD!!! Well then I get home redo the drawing and it looks ok...but I don't really know how to work my scanner and the pic is to light and WON"T show up! SO I decide to take a pic of and it turn out horrible...but hey better one then none....and my internet go dead....so finally I get the internet on and come up with this terrible image!!!

I would love all your suggestions on the outline!!!!

ID----Sweetie, the only suggestion I have for you is this. Take time for yourself. Relax!!!! You will never do as good of a job if you are not focused. To be focused you got to have two things. Well rested and relaxed.
Take a day. Get some sleep, regroup, relax, then draw. I am anticipating this drawing as much as anyone else. However I would like to see your very best effort. SO go and relax, you'll enjoy your drawing a whole lot more. I promise.
independentdrawer
Thank you very very much!!! I am getting ready to regain my sleep and I think I will take another look at it tommarow....thank you very much for taking the time to comment....

p.s. I saw your web sight.......It was very nice......I am starting on a chairty thing called project linus...where you make blankets from anyone 0-18...those who are ill and stufff......i will make sure I save a blanket or two for spot!!!

Hi ID,

I hope you don't mind but I updated your sketch photo a bit so we could see it a little better. Rotation and messed with the levels until I could see most of the sketch.

[attachmentid=7640]

I added a second image so you can easily see where you have done well and where you need to make some adjustments. The second image is an image with two layers, one with your sketch and the other with the reference photo. I made the reference photo transparent so you can see the sketch behind it. I used the line you created to mark the position of the nose to line up the two images. As you should be able to see the main problem area is the left side of the drawing. It is a bit too wide, fix that and add the facial features and you're ready to go.
[attachmentid=7641]

The images are a bit difficult to see but I think you should be able to see your lines well enough to see where you need to make the changes.

Take your time and have fun.
independentdrawer
Thank you so much! I am very glad you inhanced it! Wow thank you so much for taking your time to do all of this...I see where I was off and will get to work of fixing it!!! This is SO helpful!!! Thanks again

Hey ID---- They played paramore on the radio for the first time (or at least I have ever caught). What a great group. Haley rocks cool2.gif I hope to see more of them. Also, can't wait to see the next installment here.
independentdrawer
thanks.....i know they ROCK!!! .....I will hopfully get it on there soon...i am away from home this week so it won't be till Friday!!!!
independentdrawer
okay here are my facial fetures outline...the image quality is terrible...I am so SORRY!!!....I would have this finished but I have taken a job to help my sister out which ouccupies 50% of my time plus trying to get school and music and stuff in which occupies the other 50%!!! I try to draw whenever I am home with no guests (which is rare)...but it doesn't always work out....well anyways..here is my drawing.. iwould love your suggestions once again if you can!!!

everyone,

I am sorry I haven't gotten back to this. I was look at some of the AMAZING portraits on here ( i really admire Nuke O.'s) and I wanted to get back to this now that I have time over winter break. I am not good at portarits so I would love any help. I have only worked on the eyes....they are so so....I would love help with them!

Thanks you all,

Morgan

This is my final product

It is a nighmare of a scanning job.....it wouldn't pick up the lighter shading so it looks a little off.
I used one of my paper stumps to help me with the shading. I really didn't know how to go about doing this, so that will explain why it doesn't looks so great. I am very satisfied with it in my sketch book, the shading looks right and it just kinda pops on the paper. I know this isn't anywhere near the look of some of you great portrait people, but I am trying!
