Hi everyone. Just saying hi. I dabble in the arts...Mainly oil pastels, and pens. I've done some in charcoal and pencil, but I'm not so good. I hope to learn lots.

Welcome LaRae,
You are certainly in the right place to learn, if you stick with it the sky's the limit.
Look forward to seing your work.

Welcome LaRae,

Glad to see you made the right choice to join here with us. We'll keep you very busy working out those drawing skills that you so badly want. Otherwise, why would you be writing in a Forum at a drawing site if you weren't wanting that? That's surely why I'm here, only I really decided to stay because of all the great people who visit each day. I'm sure you will too.

So, get it together and post some of your first pieces of art to your gallery so we can see where you are starting, and then grab a lesson and get scribbling!

Hope you find it fun here, cause drawing isn't work ... uh, is it RJS?

Hi, thanks for the welcome from both of you. I've started reading through some of the basic lessons and was studying some of the strokes. Some of them I do already, just didn't know there was a name for them. Others, I get discouraged just looking at them. I mean, the hatch, crosshatch looked about as tedious as plucking up individual grains of sand. I'm more of the "let the pencil fly as it will" type. I make very random strokes and let what appears appear and should I err, I let it adjust itself. Eventually it all works out. My sketchings end up kinda raw but it works for the type of art I do. I really need to make time to upload some of my beginning work.

There are all kinds of art and all kinds of artists. With drawing it seems that the really detailed drawings would be the most life like and the most well, artistic. On the other hand there is one lesson here of an old man done by Lenardo Di Vinci that is just a few lines and it drips of life and art. So it is not the number of lines or the tediousness that makes a drawing but the right line, of the right size, in the right place. Looking forward to seeing your art. Welcome.
