*Roxy*
Hey everyone my name is Roxy and i'm your host for this week's challenge. I hope you all like the pictures I chose for you.

All levels of drawing are encouraged to participate!

The goal of this thread is to enable and encourage individuals to practice their drawing skills, learn new techniques and have fun! If you just want to sketch that’s fine. If you want to create a complex, detailed drawing, that’s great too. You will get out of this what you want. The references used are from my own personal reference library of images that I have photographed and I release them here as not under copyright, meaning you can use them as you wish for drawing.

You will be challenged by some aspect of all references most likely as you all will have different strengths and weaknesses in your ability to translate the images to paper.

Reminder:

This is a DRAWING challenge. Therefore please confine your artistic endeavours to some form of drawing: graphite, coloured pencil, pen and ink or charcoal.

There is no ruling on what size your final drawing or sketch should be. Smaller, sketchbook sizes will provide a smaller file size which is easier for loading onto the thread.

If you would like assistance or advice, please ask for it and I will be more than willing to try to guide you.

This challenge will last for one week. At that time, all challenge drawings should be submitted to this thread.

I have offered 3-5 reference images to choose from. The images are also provided in greyscale. Seeing the images in black and white gives a better sense of basic values.

I have kept the images to simple shapes that still provide challenges. Block out your basic shapes first then work the details into them, rechecking proportion and measurement against other reference points in your drawing.

If you have an interest in hosting a challenge, please see the list in the pinned area of general discussions.

I'm trying the eye too right now. So hard I have no idea how you did it. Maybe it's cause i'm trying in crayolas i dont know. I dont know if i'll finish it though.
*Roxy*
Well i'm not finished yet but that's my wip. This is a very difficult drawing for me. I'll continue it tomorrow night after work because I need to go to bed so i'm rested for work.

Hi, this is my first attemt at one of these. I've made a start at the eye, got the main bit done now and just need to complete the surround. Ill upload the drawing in in a bit when I manage to scan it happy.gif
Jamie Lightwing
As promised, here is my start at the eye. This is the origional out of the scanner copy but I played with contrast to see what it looks like and when I boosted it right up it looked almost photorealistic, so Im going to add more contrast to my drawing now.

Jamie Lightwing
Well Im all done now, finally. Hope you like it wink.gif

Thank you, and yes that is my eye one day I was bored and found the macro button on my camera and took a bunch of pictures of the flowers I had and then I tried to take pictures of my eye and that's one of them and I really liked it.

I do! looks really nice smile.gif and very realistic.

I won't give up on mine but I wont be able to work on it tonight because it's already late and after work I had to go shopping with my boyfriend because he needed clothes and when I got home he helped me make a good cover letter for my interview on Thursday. Wish me luck! Hopefully I get the job and can leave the movie theatre

I tried to draw the eye with coloured pencils, but I used a gel pen for the eyelashes. Not too pleased with it, but I tried.

I think it just winked at me Norma. wink.gif I have spent more time on this than a full blown watercolour! But here it is!

I STARTED THE EYE LATE LAST NIGHT AND I THINK I'M OVER DOING IT! SOMETHING IS JUST WRONG, I CAN'T FIGURE IT OUT, I'm still working on it but now it seems the more I work on it the more frustrated I get. (This is what happens to me EVERY time I try to draw something)
except for the fact that I made it gigantic!

Chrismh,
I don't see anything wrong with this. Also working in a large format is easier for some people. Keep going....

First off you have done beautifully!
The shape of the eye ball is perfect! Shading is great!
The only thing that I see is the distance from the eyebrows to the fold and then on to the edge (where the eyelashes are) are too short.
I would think that is what is bothering you. Otherwise it looks great!!!

OK, now I can see where you are talking about the fold in the eyebrow. THANK YOU! smile.gif

HI

It's Strathmore Drawing paper Medium 9" X 12"

I don't know why I did it so big, probably because the picture on the computer was large when I pulled it up.
Jamie Lightwing
I think its good that size, an eye has alot of detail in it so I suppose bigger is better for thta subject. Anyway keep working on it I cant wait to see it finished.
chrismh
OK, I DID ANOTHER ONE, i think the one on the board is definitely much better. I'm done!!!

I keep telling myself "Chris..step away from the pencil just step away from the pencil Chris ! LOL! laugh.gif Click to view attachment
