This glossary provides definitions and illustrations of the art-related vocabulary used throughout Drawspace lessons and articles. I tend to stay away from complicated and unnecessary words. However, knowing the meanings of fundamental terms is essential to the learning process. Becoming familiar with the vocabulary of drawing enhances your comprehension of the diverse articles and lessons throughout this website, and helps make your drawing experiences more pleasurable and less frustrating!

I found this lesson to be an excellent information paper, and an outstanding peek into what the other Lessons have in store. My main problem with it is that this should not be considered a waiting lesson. Because there is nothing physical to create or do with this lesson other than read it, there is no real reason to establish the wait rule to those that download it. Its super that I can look at it and get all the terms and tools correctly identified, but the wait is killing me. Please review this lesson and other similar lessons to exempt them from the 14 day wait period.
Best regards,
Eric

I think this is a wounderful place to get information about drawing but i also think the 30 day waiting period should be droped. I think you should be able to veiw all the lessions in section A for a month before you can move on to section B.

Hello boys and girls,
I viewed this lesson cause Im`a complete idiot with drawing. I thought it would be wise to start with the first lesson. But like the other guy/girl sais, its just an explanation of terms so you arent learning practical stuff.
Thats too bad, see now I`ve to wait for a while and I still cant draw! besides that, the lesson is designed excellent! Bye

Agreed! I also believe you should allow a section at a time per month. One lesson a month? I was upset that you got my attention drawn to this site, teased me with a free lesson and then took it away! It's a truly wonderful site...but please make up your mind..either make it free or make us pay for it but the month waiting rule is actually pretty lame...wishing I could see more in Ohio.

Thats a great news ! I also hated the month long waiting period. Also, its nice to hear that you have revived the waiting periods of other lessons too .
Many Thanks !

This is really Super!
A website that actually listens to their Customer! Is this some kind of new concept? I am so happy to begin with my next lesson already.
It was a very good idea to open the entire 'A Section' of courses for the Newcomers. A good way for getting visitors to invest some time into your site. This way they get a chance to test their skills and abilities with you coaching them along, and then when their skills improve, begin to put more time and effort into fully developing that talent.
I for one, would have no problem becoming a Subscriber once I realized my own potential, and felt more comfortable in belonging here.
My HATS OFF to the Admin and Staff of Drawspace.com for making this grateful decision.

Top Drawer!
I honestly was expecting to open this one and quickly wander away.
18 Pages! 88 Drawings!!!
...and some of those drawings perfectly fit my current need.*
They fill in gaps and illustrate things in ways I haven't seen... in a glossary even!
I have to say this is the best compilation of art and words related to drawing yet to see.
I've seen many.
Outstanding.
Its no wonder Brenda has such a following.
*Sometimes all I need is the basic idea or reference to fill that need.
This glossary really does that.

Read this... download... refer to often.
The most outstanding glossary of drawing words and terms I've yet to see.
Thanks Brenda!

This is a great site and just to let you know that Kim Komando is featuring your site today! That's great for me because I never would have found you otherwise. I love what your doing for those who have a desire to learn more about drawing, painting etc. Also for those who don't have the financial means to take classes, this is a blessing. Keep up the terrific work. Thank you!

I would like to say Thank you very much for putting this drawing website on line for those of us too old to go to school and learn it properly, those to low on funds to afford it and those who had no hope of being able to ever draw anything worthwhile (in the eyes of the beholder).
I am a writer of sorts and have a website and am told I do well. That again is up to the reader. I am a retired nurse, wife and great grandmother of three. My son is a manager of an art store in Washington DC and on his days off gives paint clases in acrylics and watercolor, etc. He had supplied me with materials and keeps me encouraged. This is such a nice site to come upon and such an encourager for me. I am 66 years old and I just keep practicing over and over again. I've always wished I could draw and illustrate what I write.
Again, Thanks and hugs to you and yours along with a big God Bless. My website is a two in one thing and its URL is:

Hi all,
I find the web page also very nice. I have a more unreal problem, I own no big linguistic proficiency in the
English one. Therefore, the question to you: Does somebody know about you a translation program, while I would be in the state to translate the "apprenticeships" into German?
thanks for help

Ok, 1 thing I noticed with ole' Albert Einstein is the wrinkles in his elderly forhead. Thus showing not only age, but thinking ability and how smart he was.Now the other item, is a ponytail with light on the part near the head, and darker near the end. I don't know if it represents anything, except that our hair is not one shade or color, it has different shades, different colors and light.
YES? And the boy, not troubled but reflecting, light in his face reminds me that he may be thinking of Christ and pondering what God wants him to do in his life. Oh, ok you've finally got me up here and I'm so excited! Tell me what you think about my comments and then what I should do next. I haven't drawn in years or doodled! Thanks~~Beauty

[attachmentid=3820]Dear Brenda, I was scanning thru the first lesson. Well the glossary of terms. Right now I'm in what I call the 'wooze' because of the CFS/ME

. Most call it, 'brainfog', but even so I can see the realness of just sketchin in pencil when all I crave is color. The instructions on the ear, the outside rim, and so on and then you have the eye!!! And what to notice about the eye as well as the ear. I don't know what to do next. But this is cool! Thank you!!~~Sleepingbeauty (truly matches up with her name right now).

A very useful reference and good well illustrated examples. There was a lot I was unsure on when reading other art books. But this cleared it up nicely. I especially had my interest sparked on the different kinds of composition.

Yes you are right! It's easy to understand and may be the reason for getting me started. After all it is the reason I retired early.
discipline is what I need, you will have to be the one to share my studio. For the discipline that is.

This information was very helpful and will be a nice tool to refer to in the future. The art concepts were easy to understand, especially with the pictures alongside the definitions. Strangely, reading through it gives me motivation to draw!!

This was a great lesson for me...I am brand new to the world of drawing and it had a lot of information that was helpful to me. I am sure that I will use it over and over for a while. I think I am going to look for the drawing for dummies book now as well.

I'm new to this site and I'm not really sure how this whole reply thing works. But I just wanted to say that I can draw, but barely. I thought it was interesting how the text on this lesson included pictures with the definitions. I think it made it easier to see what the definitions meant. I am looking forward to the drawing part though. Haha
